How hard is it to upgrade a general discharge under honorable conditions to an honorable discharge from the military?

Most discharges can be upgraded depending on the veterans conducts.99% of the time when a veteran gets a General Under Honorable its considered good enough for the the revue board. That veteran is Entitle to all benifits! The Marines being discharged with less then Honorable will run into a stone wall due to the fact that that branch does frownes on upgrading any discharges! They feel they deserved what the got!

The Navy Discharge Review Board (NDRB) reviews applications from Sailors and Marines seeking upgrades to their characterization of service and/or change to their narrative reason for separation. Regardless of characterization recieved, the applicant must prove inequity or impropriety in their separation process. Upgrades are fairly rare because very few applicant's present clear issues to show impropriety or inequity.

If a veteran was awarded medals for service but never received them how can he get them?

Your representative or congressman might be able to help. We used this resource to get my father's Purple Heart and Bronze Star 50 years after he was wounded in France. An imortant document called the DD-214 is issued to each serviceman upon discharge. Search for it and preserve it. Your nearest VFW post is an excellent place to start a search for assistance.

Are purple hearts numbered as awarded?

No, because too many of them have been awarded. Nearly a million were awarded in World War II, over 136,000 in Korea, over 200,000 in Vietnam, nearly 600 in Desert Storm, 2700 in Afghanistan and almost 34,000 in Iraq. Over 1.3 million medals total.

If you'd like to know what dropping The Bomb did, consider that the US government, in planning for casualties in the event of an invasion of Japan, ordered 500,000 Purple Hearts struck. On the day the United States commenced hostilities in Iraq, we held 120,000 of these 58-year-old medals in stock. Every unit that goes downrange in Iraq or Afghanistan takes a box of Purple Hearts with it for issue to wounded troops.

What are the working conditions of a veterinarian?

There are many different types of veterinarians, each with their own unique working conditions. However, in general, small animal veterinarians in private practice (the vet who looks at cats and dogs) work primarily inside a clinic. They usually work a regular day shift but may have to work overnight and emergency hours as well. Large animal veterinarians in private practice (vets who look at horses, cows, pigs, other farm animals) typically work at the farms or stables where the animals live. They are often exposed to the weather (hot, cold, rainy, windy, etc.) and generally cover day hours and overnight and weekend emergency hours. Research veterinarians work in labs taking care of the lab animals; they generally work normal day hours but are on call overnight and weekends in case of emergency. Public health veterinarians (also called federal veterinarians) work for the federal government in one of about 15 different agencies covering everything from food safety (USDA FSIS) to animal drug reactions (FDA CVM) to monitoring the importation of live animals or animal products (USDA APHIS). They work a regularly scheduled shift, sometimes with overtime, but rarely have overnight or emergency hours and are usually working in a building somewhere. Military veterinarians work the same shifts under the same conditions as active duty military - usually a regularly scheduled day shift with some emergency duties and active duty deployments overseas.

What does Veteran's day represent?

Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day. The armistice ending the hostilities of World War I went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918. That is why November 11th is deemed the date for this holiday. It was a day to honor all those who had served during WWI, at that time commonly called the Great War. It was first commemorated on November 11, 1919.

November 11, 1918 was not the end of World War I. It did not officially end until the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919. Armistice Day officially became a national holiday in 1938. Armistice Day gradually became referred to as Veterans Day and on June 1, 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, the holiday was renamed as Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars in which the United States was involved.

Are there scholarships available to people over 50?

Oh yes! I have personally overseen the acquisition of several scholarships to both men and women of all ethnic groups who were over 50 year old. Scholarships like these are typically found under search terms like non-traditional, professional returning or adult returning. There are also numrous scholarships out there for individuals regardless of age within particular fields of study, so don't count anything out! Do your research and comb through the opportunities that might interest you. Most importantly don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it, there are several sources for guidance and help when it comes to funding higher education.

If you have other than honorable dishcharge can you rejoin military?

If you have an RE-4 reentry code on your DD-214, your most likely answer is going to be no (the one exception being an RE-4C for failure to meet citizenship requirements for continued service, as the military has since done away with the eight year service limitation for foreign citizens). However, it's not completely unheard of.. there are unique cases in which it was possible.

Only an actual recruiter is going to be able to give you a definite answer.

Can you have an id if honorably discharged after 4 years of service?

Most service members keep their military ID after they are discharged, especially as most take terminal leave before their ETS date, and are still in the military during this time. However, they have an expiration date. The only way you'll be able to keep a maintain a current DoD identification card is to either reenlist, join a reserve component, become a civilian employee of the DoD, or marry someone in the military, and get a dependent's ID.

Who do you get in touch with over veterans benefits dispute?

you have to file a NOD or notice of disagreement. When you received your statement of claim or SOC it should have had appeal information attached to the back of it. You file your appeal with the rating board that denied you and also with the regional office. Some organizations like AMVETS will assist and represent you in filing an appeal and winning your benefits, however, I have found them completely useless here in the midwest at least.
