How did vikings arrive in America?

It is said to have happened 500 years before Columbus came to America (according to the myth). But one could put it this way...

They came form the "east" expanding and growing in what manner they could along the timeframe and places that has been recorded in history. Steadily heading West all the time, and did not at all stay put in Iceland or today's United Kingdom. However there were tribes or parts of tribes that decided to stay on these islands amidst the way to America.

An advanced guessing is that they already landed in America during the first viking crusades, and not during the second when it is said that they discovered it.

Where were the Vikings born?

Thor was actually a Viking god; son to Odin and the Giantess, Jord. His tales were told in the Eddas and Sagas of Norse mythology. He was the god of thunder and his name leant itself to Thursday (Thor's day). As to when he was born; this much is not clear. The stories tell of the birth of each of the Norse gods as actual events, although there is never any mention of specific dates. Much of what is recanted is very fancifull and was more likely written to dramatise the plot rather than record the precise details of individual events. Suffice to say, if Thor had a birth date, it would have been an incredibly long time ago. Just how long is open to interpretation.

Why do you think viking ships went so fast?

The shape of the hull was designed to efficiently slip through the water. The single square sail was used if there was a wind blowing in a suitable direction. Or, when windless, or when the wind direction was not favourable, oars were used. Being shallow keeled, the long boat was ideal for sailing far upstream of most rivers. Being almost double fronted, the boat could be rowed in either direction. Very handy should a rapid retreat from a hostile shore be prudent, rather than having to turn the boat around first, as with a square stern boat.

How many superbowls have the vikings won?

None. They appeared in four, but lost them all. Losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-7 in Super Bowl IV, the Miami Dolphins 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII, the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-6 in Super Bowl IX and the Oakland Raiders 32-14 in Super Bowl XI.

Why did the vikings wear horned helmets?

They didn't.

Well, at least not in battle.

A horned helmet might LOOK good, but the horns would make it real easy to knock the helmet off.

And if you had it strapped on tight, a good strike would either knock the horn off, or break your neck.

Horned headgear might have been used in rituals for some sort of symbolic value though.
