Dude, as a sophmore student at VT I can tell you this: I got in after getting a 620 on English and 570 on the math section, and got in. But I'll be straightfoward: don't think you have a chance. 35% of students that apply don't get in, and average SAT scores are 540-630 for critical reading 570-670 for math, 530-630 for writing. You are way below that. But you can always try, you might be lucky.

Perhaps not a simple case of a mental health problem manifested by Seung-Hui Cho that resulted in the Blacksburg Massacre of 35 persons but of a nation that has failed to invest adequately in mental health issues. It also brought to center stage the need to examine the gun laws of the Nation. Gun violence and the security of schools and colleges is nothing new, Charles Whitman proved that at the Texas Tower shooting of 1966 and the Columbine High School massacre of 1999 did not bring enough attention to campus safety.

The Virginia Tech 'shooter', Seung-Hui Cho, had been treated for mental illness since his early teens. Some reports say that he had been bullied about his speech impediment but those reports were never substantiated. In High School, he received special support for his psychological issues from the school and his parents to help him. The administration at Virginia Tech was unaware of his history and provided no mental health services or support for him. After a stalking incident in 2005, two years before the shootings, a court ordered outpatient psychological services for him but the school was not responsible for administering the order. It is unclear how or if Cho followed through with the court order. One of the impediments for the school administration's oversight of a student's mental health status are the laws protecting the privacy of patient information.

VTs average GPA of freshmen is around 3.8, requires a pretty darn good SAT score... think around the 80th percentile, and extracurricular activities including charity/community service type activities. Family alumni and donations don't hurt your chances for admission either...
