V70 Volvo rear seat belt stuck how to fix?

First off, this can happen when a small plastic pin (usually to position the seat belt male latch) falls out of the seatbelt or when you fold the rear seat down without carefully pulling out a length of seat belt first - YOU MUST DO THIS - pull out a length of seat belt before folding down the seat or the latch will lock the belt in position as you push the seat forward into the folded position. THE BUTTON STOP ON THE BELT ONLY acts as a stop when the seat gets folded down, to prevent the belt from getting pulled in. However many V70s already actually have the belt stop in place but it still happens (just happened to me yesterday and hence I know how to fix it).

Once the seat back is horizontal, there's no way to pull the belt back out since the jerking movement to push down the seat is telling the seat belt latch to lock as if in an accident and once locked it needs the seat back to rise first before it will reset and open the latch. So the taught belt is now holding the seat in its folded forward position and wil no release. Catch 22 so to speak.

Part 1: Getting the seat back upright again: My garage was going to remove the whole seat to try and fix this until I found this tip -

This works ! - Unbolt the belt anchor bolt from where it is attached between the seat cushion and the wheel well next to the floor This is a threaded bolt with no internal nut. Luckily this is accessible when the seat is folded down or better you can lift out the side seat trim carefully by simultaneously pulling upwards and the top of the padded trim towards the front seat to disengage the two mounting points. The seat cushion needs to be held away or moved up if possible, which makes it a little cumbersome. But in the end this fix takes less than 5 minutes if you have a 13mm socket and ratchet.

Part 2: Preventing this from happening again:

A. If you're ambitious, try to get the part from Volvo (good luck) BUT you do not need it if you follow para B) below and pull out the belt length before folding down the seat

B. Get what's essentially a plastic rivet - two parts that snap together with a pin Many new Volvos (like mine) already have this in the belt anyway as a positioning stay for the belt male connector BUT it is still likely to happen to you unless you PULL OUT A (3 feet) LENGTH OF SEAT BELT BEFORE YOU FOLD DOWN THE SEAT to be sure - otherwise the belt jams in its final horizontal position and prevents the seat being lifted up again. Do this and you will not have this problem ever.

C. Anything that makes the belt about 1/8" thick at that point

You can usually find the hole/spot where the original pin used to be. If not, just put it within a 1/4" of the slot when the seat is upright and the belt resting against the seat back.

From my experience this C) answer however will not stop the situation happening again unless you pull out a length of seat belt before you fold the rear seat down as the pushing down movement of the seat locks the latch onto the belt as if in a traffic accident.

It works, as does the fix.

The headlights are designed to be on all the time as this is a legal requirement in Sweden. There also may be a fuse for the driving lights which is separate to the fuse for the main light switch. check the fuse box diagram may be listed as driving lights, aux lights or safety lights. How do you open the tailgate on a Volvo V70 if the battery is dead?

Just been in that exact situation. Need to charge battery, but as it's in the boot, you can't get to it!

The way I got around it was to connect up a portable jump start unit under the bonnet which allowed me to unlock car with remote plip.

Once I had removed battery for charging, I just relocked with plip, removed jump start and closed bonnet - all secure.

Do the same to refit battery, but just remember to set ignition to position II before connecting it up. Not sure why, just something Volvo dealer told me I needed to do.

How do you replace tail light bulb Volvo v90?

It will vary depending on the year of the Volvo V90. However, here is the general procedure for Volvo V90 tail light bulb replacement: Purchase the correct replacement tail light bulb(s) first, before disassembling the vehicle. See sources and related links below for replacement bulb information. Then consult your owner's manual for the tail light bulb replacement procedure. When driving your 2000 Volvo V70 AWD is making a whining noise which then turns into rattling noise as you drive Is this a drive shaft issue?

This is a very common problem in the early AWD models. My 1999 V70 XC AWD had the Prop (Drive) Shaft removed after a sound like hitting a wrench against a metal pipe got so loud I had to get the problem diagnosed. The two CV joints at each end of the shaft plus the centre bearing had all perished.

You can remove the shaft (1 hour labour max) and drive the car perfectly safely and well as a front wheel drive but if like me you really need the snowcat effect of All Wheel Drive then either a new one from Volvo costing upwards of 850 Pounds in the or find a driveshaft company to rebuild your old one. Can be tricky but mine was done for half the price of new. In the US Colorado Driveshaft have a good reputation for this as do Driveshaft UK in England who did mine.

How to fix the transmission on a xc90?

Depends on the transmission and year. 5 or 6 cylinder? What is the problem with the transmission?

What would the cost of labor alone be to replace a transmission on a 2003 Volvo XC90?

my best guess since this is a euro car somewhere from 1-3 thousand This will depend on the Transmission in the car. Two types are used in the XC90. For the 6 cylinder engine it is the GM-4T65 and for the 5 Cylinder it is an AW-50/55. Either one can also be All Wheel Drive adding to the cost of replacement. The 5 cylinder two wheel drive will be the least expensive while the 6 cylinder All Wheel Drive will be the most costly.

What are the requierments to sit in the passengers seat?

Are you asking if a child can ride in the front seat?

I think over 80 lbs and 54 inches tall.

First, you need to have a butt; second, you need to place the butt on the seat. That should do it. If that does not work, either take the Volvo to the shop or your butt to a proctologist.
