That car comes with load bars as standard equipment, so you should just grab a set of Yakima RailGrab's and a couple 58" crossbars and you're good to go.

Thule has a setup for you too, but it's WAY more expensive than the Yakima solution.

How safe in comparison to crash testing ?

The XC90 is the only 4x4 SUV that has ever been put through the roll over test.

(Almost as if the Volvo folk thought - we can do that ...)

Along with side impact protection, a stupid amount of airbags and curtains

So all in all, this is a very safe car.

I can tell you that I am paying $600 for a new master cylinder (parts and labor) for my 2004 XC90. Supposedly the part is not remanufactured, but new (although I haven't verified that yet.) I was told ~2 hours labor.

I have an 04 but I don't think many changes were made. You will need a hex driver of some size to remove the panel under the glove compartment on the passenger side. I can't recall how many hex screws there are but it is very simple.

That's programmed into the ECM. You'd need to hook a computer with the appropriate software for the engine to the ECM, and adjust the settings there. If it's not your truck to do this with, then the ECM will most likely be password protected, and you won't be able to do this.

In general:

5 series 1993 and earlier with the big six cylinder (m30 3.5 l)

3 series 1991 and earlier with the m20, 2.5 l.

I have had experience with the e30 and e34 chassis models and both are great with the proper maintenance. Remember, even a good car needs proper care and will fall apart without it.

Stay away from the later BMW's. They are nowhere near as reliable.

You must use a Dual Layer DVD, and I could only get it to work using one particular brand of DVD. Verbatim 2.4x DVD+RL (Part No 43562). I used Nero to burn it.

There are either shocks that hold it up your linkage. Most likely shocks, they do wear out over time and they are not expensive and pretty easy to put them in.
