Open the driver's do and it's on the side of the dasboard, you have to push a screwdriver (the VW keys are actually perfect size for this) into a small hole in the bottom of the panel and lever it out.

Right in the middle of the engine area is a black oil cap. In there.

The gearboxes are notorious on these's cars. From memory its one of the bearings that goes. Id start looking for a recon box ebay's a good shout

on my 98, when you remove the compartment under the steering wheel the compartment has a diagram of all the fuses.

unscrew old filter casing and pull out old paper filter , install new filter pushing into place, replace oil seal if provided and hand tighten filter casing to engine.

Most people damage their clutch because of incorrect use of clutch.

Always make sure when you apply brakes you press the bake pedal only, therefore be fore the rev counter reaches 10 then you can press your clutch pedal. That will assist your engine to slow smoothly, just imagine pressing half clutch and hald break, the friction between your clutch plate and engine increases because the engine speed is still high, Just imagine doing that while you are doing 120Km/h,

Hi, after removing the nut. From the outside lift the light up then pull it back. Its got 2 clips on the side.

It is usually caused by one of 4 things.

1. Check oil level.

2. Blocked oil strainer,this can be solved by removing the sump and cleaning it.

3. faulty oil pressure switch,solved by replacing it.

4. blocked oil filter,again replace it.

yes i have done two. one a 1997 & the other a 1998 make sure you get the alternator off the donor as the one on your car wont fit the bracket that holds the power steering pump

Caps refer to the distributor cap. A distributor cap is used in an automobile's engine to cover the distributor and its internal rotor.

If you use a 1 or 2 ground electrodes spark plug, these must have a 0.9mm gap. Besides, you can use a 4 ground electrodes spark plug (Super 4 from BOSCH) with the code FR78X, wich is able to be used with gaps from 0.9 to 1.1mm

1-disconnect battery. 2- remove all lower dash plastic panels. 3- disconnect all plugs on steering coloumn. 4- remove shear bolts on steering coloumn, easy with a long 8" sharp chisel (get 2 x new shear bolts £0.50p each). 5-loosen & remove bolt at steering rack in drivers footwell, mark position of spline before removing this makes it east to refit (tipex). 6- pull steering coloumn out towards you & it will slide off the bush quite easy. 7- loosen clutch cable adjustment & remove cable nipple at pedal. 8-remove clutch pedal. 9- pull brake pedal out of plastic insert, this will break there is no way to remove this without breaking the plastic clip. get a new brake pedal clip insert for a Mk 3 golf £4 its the same (dont let VW sell you a new pedal) 10- remove 5 x nuts holding pedal box to bulkhead/brake servo. 11- cut 2 x cable ties holding throttle wiring & disconnetc plug above heater on drivers side. 12- push/pull brake servo slightly out of bulk head. 13- remove pedal box.

Cause of the problem- The clutch bracket is only held to the pedal box with 2 x spot welds & a 10mm tack on the top corner.

Repair- Fully Weld the clutch bracket to the pedal box. Great repair.

refitting reverse of above.

Duration around 6/8 hours Less if you get the spare parts before you start.

I wasted time trying to remove the brake pedal without breaking the clip impossible to do even with theVW tool. £4 on a new clip is well worth it.

In the lidded compartment below the steering wheel. There is also a black box with fuses in the engine bay on newer (9N) Polos.

Polo pescatarian? Please...why don't you just say "I don't eat red meat!" To answer the question, if you eat chicken, you can eat turkey. I assume the "polo" refers to poultry, and turkey is a bird.

Check the rubber fuel hoses between the fuel lines and intake system in the engine bay. They may be worn and in need of replacement. You can also "trim" them shorter and use new hose clamps to fasten.

Changing a front wing of a polo (mk4) is very easy with minimal tools. Should take maybe 20mins - half hour to take off. and same back on. They can also be bought very inexpensively at your local breakers yard for around 15 quid.

1. jack up the car and remove the wheel.

2. With wheel out the way you have space to go in with a torx screwdriver and undo all the screws holding the plastic inner to the wheel arch. There will be two remaining fixings; two nuts which can be undone with the multi-tool (which should be with the jack) or just a spanner or socket set. pull out the plastic inner.

3. Still in the wheel well, undo with spanner(but more likely socket set due to stiffness and paint) bolts that attack the wing to main body of the car and the others which attach the wing to the bumper and splitter. There are two awkward bolts that need undoing which you can access by sliding underneath the front end of the car and reaching up. These are the last two bolts(in this area) holding the wing on.

4. Pop the bonnet. At the top of the panel, you will see a line of 4(?) bolts that need undone. This should be the last bolts to undo unless theres are any attaching the wing to the indicator light. If So these are easy to get off.

5.The wing should now come off. Care should be taken when manouvering the wing when removing(or replacing) so as not to damage the indicator mounting which is fragile at best. You may want to undo the mounting to release the indicator? If you break the indicator mounting, it may well fall out during driving and need securing in place.(a piece of folded card will last for months in all weathers).

6. Same to replace but in reverse. You may also want to leave the bolts 4 bolts inside the eniging bay slightly loose until the end so you can reallign the panel to fit neatly allongside the bonnet to ensure a uniform part line.

take the lowerest pipe off the radiator. WARNING, ONLY DO THIS WHEN ENGINE HASN'T BEEN RUNNING OR YOU'LL GET SCALDED

Well The Handbook Cant Be Wrong:) I Work In A VW Garage And We Use Castrol 10w 40. Either Will Be Good But Castrol Is Really Worth The Extra Few £££

You may be able to find this layout online. You will then be able to use it to fix anything that might be wrong with the vehicle.

there is no timing belt so no need to change. i took mine to a garage for the same thing expecting a hefty bill but was pleasantly surprised to find out it didnt need changing ....i think he said it was a chain or something 1
