What is a good weight to use for squats if you've never weight lifted before and are pretty weak?

Does tea stunt growth?

No tea does not stunt growth. In fact, scientists believe that tea is very good for the heart and staving off some cancers. Whether this is true or not is anyone's guess, but at least it won't stunt your growth. My husband loves tea and he's 6' 6" tall.

Should you take estrogen blocker if I'm taking DHEA and Tribulus?

With Tribulus Terrestris an estrogen blocker is not necessary. With DHEA, it would be highly recommended. One prescription drug that will serve as an estrogen blocker is Propecia. Propecia is used to prevent and reverse hair loss in men and is quite effective. It is therefore a prescription which is easier to acquire (what doctor would turn down a male patient wanting to ensure that he keeps his hair) and is effective for both purposes (keeping hair and blocking additional testosterone from aromatizing into estrogen and related compounds). But then, I'm not an expert, just a guy who works out and tries to keep up with the growing body of knowledge out there.

What does glutamine do for your body during weightlifting?

Glutamin improves the body's recovery post workout. By ingesting 5grams per day, studies have shown improved healing of tissues. Refer to google scholar for research regarding burn victims, and gastrointestinal surgery recovery rates with and without supplemental l-glutamin.

Glutamin aids in protein synthesis, and can be used as a protein replacement in cases of severe deprivation. As a conditionally essential amino acid, glutamine appears to be a unique amino acid, serving as a preferred respiratory fuel for rapidly proliferating cells, such as enterocytes and lymphocytes; a regulator of acid-base balance through the production of urinary ammonia; a carrier of nitrogen between tissues; and an important precursor of nucleic acids, nucleotides, amino sugars, and proteins.

Hence, for weight lifting, it has no benefits during exercise. However, the benefits are clearly present post workout. It can even hold off the "lifter cold" that weight lifters have to fight with.

What is a good lineman weightlifting routine?

im 15 years old and i start on offensive line at my school the thing is, lifting is a HUGE part, but u also have to eat, think of it as you HAVE to be a wall, which is what you are. IF you eat alot and lift alot youll be insane at blocking. work your way up to 210 - 250 and bench press at least 145. work on ALL of your muscle even your hand muscles, most importantly your upper body strength. you have to be able keep your legs fast, you don't exactly have to be blazing fast but you need to easily get 6.0 on a 40 yard dash. don't drink soda or crap like that during the in season, itll slow u down like no tommarow, drink water and gaterade. hope that all helps.

Answerno that's incorrect. if you just eat a ton and lift, you'll be huge, but you'll stink at blocking. when you lift and get big, your body loses its flexibility. you want to get big, but at the same time work on improving your lateral movement, agility, flexibility, explosiveness, and speed. i would do all your core lifting (deadlift, squat, bench press, and clean) but cleans are probably the most important thing you can do.

work on benching, both incline and regular. also some of the best lifts for line men are the deadlift, hang clean, and power clean. they will help with your explosiveness. squats and the military press are also some lifts that will help.

What should you do before and after weight training?

The single most important thing you can do before exercising is stretching. If you do not properly stretch, you will not get the full benefit of your workout, unless your goal is to get injured. Always stretch before and after any strenuous activity for at least 15 minutes if possible.

Previous Contributors Have Said:You should get plenty to eat. An hour or so prior to weight training (if possible, its hard to do if you weight train early in the morning), you should have a high energy snack. Within two hours after weight training your body needs to be replenished with protein and good carbs. And of course, when weight training or doing any exercise regiment, you need to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Where did weightlifting originate?

it orginated in Europe when two boys were cleaning and were "competing" to lift the heaviest things. Thence weight lifting was born.

Is weightlifting using white muscle or red muscle?

weight lifting uses white muscle. Red muscle is used for longer sustained, repetitive movements, like long distance running.

Which is better protein or carbohydrates for a muscle growth?

That all depends on the excercises you are doing to produce muscle growth. It you are doing "active" excersises (running, swimming, rowing etc.) then a higher amount of carps will be better as this will provide the long term energy you need to maintain this type of excersise. If you are only doing "inactive" excersises (Weight lifting, tension cords, calastetics etc.) then a lower amount of carbs with higher amounts of protein would be more benificial to muscle growth.

Before changing or altering your diet you should speak to your doctor and a dietician about your goals. They will be able to tell you if the goals are attainable and if you will have any potential health problems along the way. They will also be able to keep you informed on your progress toward your goal.

How to lose weight for basic training?

After graduating High School I weighed 230 lbs. Dieting did nothing so I started drinking much more water than usual which helped a lot. I wasn't a big runner but I'd go walking at night when it was cool. Soon I got used to that and started running, more and more often. When the summer was over I weighed 170 lbs, not even kidding. I'm still suprised at what determination can do. Just remember to be routine or it will all have been for nothing, you won't get to relax in Basic Training. Not trying to sound silly, but also try and go to the bathroom more often, get used to clearing out your entire system. Really helps. If you are having a hard time, get other people your age to go running with you. Keep in contact with your recruiter; attend the weekly poolie functions at the recruiting station. Be able to do at least 4 pull-ups and run 3 miles without stopping. If unable to do that, don't worry they will work with you but it will make it a lot easier on yourself. Marine Corps Basic is the most difficult (13 weeks long) but the process is more mental than physical. Go in there with a good attitude about everything, dont take it TOO seriously. When your platoon gets punished it's usually because of someone else who can't take it anymore and screws up. Don't be that guy. Good luck!

Is lifting weights just for an hour for 1 year still make your muscles big?

What is a good warmup before a max deadlift attempt?

The only answer to this is several sets of light deadlifts. You warm up your muscles and prepare your body for an exercise by going through that same range of motion and preparing your body for that very movement.

What work out should an aspiring 15 year old Marine hopeful be doing on a daily basis?

The basic USMC Physical Fitness test consists of a three mile run, as many sit-ups as can be done in two minutes and the number of pull-ups one can do. Anything that will improve those abilities is going to be a help!

Why will height stop growing by lifting weights?

Whether its weights, calisthenics, or Charles Atlas dynamic tension, excessive strength training during the developmental years can in fact cause an unnatural upsurge in testosterone in children which fools the body into thinking the body is close to full maturation. The body is programmed to stop growing once all hormones are "in place" at their right chemical balance, because strength training causes a testosterone upsurge during the recovery phase, what this will do to children, especially males entering their teens is fool the body into thinking "oh, we have a man/woman's testosterone levels now so, no more bone growth needed, or muscle, or anything else." The high intensity calisthenics done by gymnasts is part of the reason most of them are short.

Many male gymnasts can have fathers who stand at 6'2 or taller, but their sons are only around 5'4 because of the high intensity calisthenics gymnastics puts them through. The reason the Shaolin temple in China does not have this problem, has to do with the fact that high intensity strength training does not begin for the young monks, I believe, until the age of 15. Where a gymnast kid in the U.S. is forced to do up to 100 to 200 push ups in a row, in China the regimentation is only around 20 to 50 for children, and it intensifies to 500 in a row at age 15, by the time a monk is 18, they are expected to do 1,000 pushups in a row. However stunted growth is generally not an issue because they are careful not to put young children through brutal strength training until they are ready. Both prepubescent boys and girls, in fact have the hormones relevant to their gender, albeit on much lower levels than grown adults or teens. High intensity strength training, however, will create an upsurge, and that will stunt growth.

For children, it is generally recommended that no strength training of any kind with weights is done until age 15, and if its calisthenics, it should be restricted to between 10 to 20 repetitions, it may intensify to working their way up to 100 to 200 in a row only in the mid teens. Where weight training is concerned, it starts at 14 but only at moderate intensity; back in high school our own weight training teacher never allowed burnout reps, well, if you were a freshman anyway, he only let Juniors and Seniors do burnouts.
