Westies are a small compact dog with a bullet shape. Both Fiesty and lovable wih a lovely size.

As far as this longtime owner is concerned, there are no black Westies. Scottish Terriers are black and are often mistaken for Westies. Seeing them side by side will clarify any misconceptions.

We have one and he's a very good dog, he's a little over a year old now. He is VERY intelligent and was easy to train, with the exception that it did take longer to housebreak him then it took to housebreak our Golden Retriever. But tiny dogs have tiny bladders after all, so we had to wait until he was big enough to be fully housebroken.

He's extremely friendly, love kids, and gets along fine with other dogs and even cats!! He WILL chase bunnies and squirrels though, but these dogs WERE bred to hunt small wild animals. We were told that Westies are NOT lap dogs and not very cuddly ... but our little guy apparently never read those parts of his breed description because he IS a lap dog and loves to be picked up and cuddled!!

You're talking about 98 human years here. Fourteen is a good age for a dog, including a Westy and some will age quicker than others, depending on their diet, regular health inspections and of course, the attitude of the owner(s). It is not uncommon for some dogs of this age to develop cataracts, causing blindness, or having deafness - in exactly the same way this happens to some elderly humans be certain that apparent blindness or deafness is not being caused by an infection, make sure your pet is examined by a qualified vet. If blindness occurs, your pet can still live a full life and will soon get used to the placement of the furniture. Outdoors, he or she will depend on you a lot and you should be prepared to spend time. Many years ago, my 12 year old poodle went blind, but enjoyed the next four years he lived. He knew us and where he was by smell and as long as we did not move furniture, he walked around inside with great confidence. He still enjoyed his walks on a leash and his car rides. His house training remained great and he always let us know when he wanted to go outside and, of course, we went with him.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. People are allergic to the saliva and to the dander. Although Westies very minimally shed (pretty much like people loose hair), they do have a little dander, and definitely have saliva.

They can swim safely in controlled environments, and I HIGHLY recommend using a life jacket for them....mine hates it, but he deals.

An experienced breeder would already know the answer to your question. Please do NOT breed your Westie if you have no experience. Westies, like many small breeds, can often have problems during delivery of puppies that can cause death of the puppies, the mother dog, or both.

Wives who are getting what they need in terms of a relationship with their partner are often excited to decorate, clean, and do lots of things around the house because she feels a real partnership with her partner and wants to please him. If you go to work, come home and watch tv without engaging in any conversation with her about how her day was with the kids she probably doesn't really care because you act like you don't.
