What is best method for cutting glass sheet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can use the same drill you use for drilling metal. Answer: Yes you can use a metal drill bit, but you have to be very careful with Plexiglas when drilling, it can chip-out, break-out, or even crack the Plexiglas.

The way to drill without no chip-out is to sandwich the Plexiglas between two pieces of wood. TIP: make sure the Plexiglas is held tight between the 2 pieces of wood when drilling.

How much does it cost to replace windows in an old house?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depending on where the house is located and the sizes and types of windows you want... it can run you from $200.00 to over $800.00 per window...

You should go with a replacement window because of the difference in labor cost to install. A completely new window including the frame would be a tremendous difference. Make sure you get a insulated glass with a low 'E" rating and the glass should be filled with Argon Gas or Krypton Gas. They have a new composite made window that has an extremely high insulated rating.

If you are handy at all you can replace the old windows with new ones while saving a lot of money doing it. Changing out windows is not really all that hard and can reduce the cost of the windows down to $50-$300. and up according to the size and type of window you want to replace. I would think the average would run about$79.00 per 4'x4' double payne vinyl window purchased from your local home improvement store.

How much does it cost to have replacement windows installed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can save a lot of money by doing the replacement yourself. Windows can be purchased at your local home improvement store reasonably cheap from 49.00- and up.

It depends on the size and quality of the window you're looking to replace. More information provided will help you on this question. Give us the size and type of window you're looking to replace. As for labor it's cheaper if you're having multiple windows done rather than just one. Places like Home Depot and Lowe's do installs but you might find it easier and cheaper to buy the window on your own and look up a local handyman that knows how to install it.

I would say an average is $200-$400 in most areas for a single window - though this can vary widely. If you don't have any tricky trim, shapes, access, obstructions,... you should have the window cost plus $200 labor - this includes re-installing existing trim, and some insulation and caulk. Again - this is a rule-of-thumb - there are MANY variables that can affect this - INCLUDING the time of year that you have it done. The dead of winter (with cooperative weather) is always good as business is slow.
