The Midland LXT 480 radio operates in the 462-465 MHz GMRS/FRS band.

The channels marked #8 to #14 operate on license-free frequencies with low power.

All of the other channels require an FCC license, and there are severe penalties for

There is software that someone sneaky can purchase which can turn on your cell phone's microphone so that they can listen to you even when the phone is off. You can check for these by using a bug detector from dynaspy.com that scans for a signal coming from your phone. If it detects a signal when the phone is off then you may have spy software installed! If you think your phone is bugged, bring the phone to the place that you bought it from and have them exchange it for a new one.
