Two way radios have both a transmitter and a receiver so that they may send and receive signals beween units, in both directions. They operate on assigned frequencies within various areas of the radio bands, or spectrum. When a receiver is assigned to operate on a specific frequency, it ideally would just receive that frequency alone. It would be perfectly selective and only receive signals on that assigned frequency, and reject all others. But no device is perfect, therefore it receives 'mostly' on the assigned frequency, and somewhat on the frequencies adjacent to the one assigned. Thus if there is an unwanted signal on a frequency nearby the desired one, it will also be received, but to a lesser extent than the desired signal. (this assumes they are of equal strength). This undesired reception of adjacent signals is one form of interference, and the stronger that undesired signal is, the more it may tend to disrupt reception of the desired signal. There may also be signals on the exact same frequency as your desired signal, and depending on the relative strength of the desired vs the un desired, interference may occur.

There are two models, essentially, that radiobiologists use to explain this phenomena of ionizing radiation damage to cells. One is direct target theory, which explains both chromosome damage and cell death, the other is indirect action, which is associated more with cell death. Direct target theory assumes that the ionizing radiation interacts with the cellular macromolecule, such as DNA or RNA, breaking the electron bonds (hence, ionizing), and causing disruption or change in the biologic function of that molecule. Sometimes this damage can be repaired, sometimes the damage is fatal to the cell. If the ionizing occurs in the DNA molecule, which is the structural component of the chromosome, the damage may change the chromosomal function, and if the cell lives, may be passed on to the offspring as genetic mutation. Please note however that any observed mutations are the same mutations one would see in the population naturally. Unlike the movies, radiation induced mutations aren't determined by the type of mutation, but determined by the occurance of exposure to radiation. Indirect action occurs when the water in the cell is ionized, creating free radicals, which further create hydrogen peroxide and oxygen in the cell. In fact, you should translate: unlocked (for use with any operator network) and no reserve (price). So you would get an unlocked phone while bidding under no reserve price conditions :)

I have been also looking for an relevant explanation on dedicated forums for long. No one could shed some light on this "unlocked NR": unlocked with No Restrictions for any network? Unlocked with No Reserve for any network?

So I asked to two eBay sellers, having offers including such "unlocked NR". Both replied the same: "unlocked to any network and no reserve price"!

There's no difference in their usefulness, and no basis for any preference on

the part of the transmitting party. There's an advantage to the receiving party,

however, if he can coordinate with the transmitting party. The advantage of

having a choice is that you can choose whichever mode encounters less

interference, and you can switch 'on the fly' if the congestion/interference

environment changes.

Upper sideband may be somewhat more difficult to receive clearly. This isn't a

technical issue, though. It's just sometimes harder for the operator behind the

tuning knob to tune it clearly, and slightly-mistuned upper sideband is harder to

understand than slightly-mistuned lower sideband is, because the frequencies

in the voice are inverted relative to each other.

Okay so i have a problem, last night about 9:00pm I started to not receive my messages. Usually if I didn't get them right away, I would get them in like an hour later. An hour went by and still nothing, and now today I still cant receive anything. others can get my texts but I cant see their message on my phone. Is it my battery? the Satellite from virgin mobile? or is it my phone completely?

By the way.. I've already tried to shut off my phone and let it be for a while and took out the battery, and I contacted my company...soo can anyone else could give me any advice on what to do? im having a texting withdrawl!

Yes, Larry King on Larry King Live hosted an entire show on the dangers of Cell phone usage.

This is an interesting debate. Most of today's cell phones transmit at 250milliwatts (1/4 of a watt). At this very low power it would take an eon to damage a human being.

On another note however, the way celfones are being misused are more dangerous than the debated effects of the radiation it emits. A lot of road accidents specially involving teens are related to cell phone misuse.
