Network signals broadcast by a router can be encrypted, and one method of security is WEP, Wired Equivalent Privacy. Encrypted signals help make sure only authorised people are using the router - this is done by having a WEP key. If a device knows the same WEP key as the router, then it is able to unencrypt the signal. If someone does not have access to the WEP key, it means they are unable to use the router.

First, you find an area with wireless, like mcdonalds (or if you have wireless at your house)

Next, go into setup and go to the 3rd page. Touch Internet>Connection settings.

Now choose a connection 1-3. Touch search for an acess point. If there is one nearby, it will show up. touch the one with th highest bars. Note:

A lock means you need to enter a password.

An unlocked lock means you don't need a password.

a grey lock means you need to go back to the connection settings menu and touch advanced Setup. Now, touch 4-6 And follow the above instructions.

A connection test should start. If it is successful, you can use that connection for wifi.

Yes, provided the laptop and Play Station Portable can communicate with a common network protocol and the laptop has a means to communicate with a local or foreign network.

That said, these criteria alone do not necessarily mean the laptop has the necessary software to support packet routing/forwarding and/or the ability to resolve network names, only that such communication is possible given the above criteria. Wireless adapters in genral are for computers. The Xbox is designed to only work with the official Xbox wireless adapter to boost revenue to Microsoft. I personally suggest staying away from this adapter because it can only be used for the Xbox. Powerline is an alternative to wireless, and powerline can be used with many different things. The best way to connect to the Internet is a network cable directly to the router, but when that is not an option, powerline and wireless are the 2 most popular options. There are other options such as MoCa and HomePNA.

You cannot use a regular cell phone to either connect to the internet via a wifi hotspot or make voip calls. Just buy another phone which are wifi enabled...

The best location is somewhere centrally located so that all areas of the house are covered. Obviously not always possible so take this into consideration the less walls the router has to travel through including floors the better the signal. Also electronics will mess the signal ex. tvs, microwaves, stereos etc.

the cost of any wireless router depends on which one you are looking for. if you are looking for just a temporary one that is cheap then go for it. there are many price ranges for linksys wireless routers

Yes. You must first make sure your DSL modem is just a modem not a modem and a router. Then you must setup your DSL modem in "bridged mode". Next log into your router and change it from DHCP to PPPoE and enter your DSL username and password in the proper fields. All will work well from that point on.

It depends on a router. Cheap ones can support couple dozens theoretically but it the real life it's about 10-12 in the same time connected computers. More expensive models can handle more connections.

Its supposed to offer more security from hackers. That's all. If i were your neighbour and was using a windows machine to hack your internet, I wouldn't know you had interenet because its "invisible". So technically if i cant see it, then i cant hack it.

However, you can download tools which will reveal it anyway. But that's the idea behind not broadcasting your ssid.

BTW: you know what the ssid is..?? Incase you don't, when you go to connect to a wireless connection your computer does a search to see whats available. Then it shows all the networks which are in range and asks you to pick one. The name of the network you see is the ssid.

No - you use a Wifi card or USB Wifi adapter to access the router. Bluetooth operates on the same frequency as Wifi (2.4Ghz), however the transmission protocol is different and at a lower power.
