Why did United States join the united nation at the end of world war 2?

Roosevelt didn't want a WW3.

The League of Nations had failed largely because the U.S. refused to support it (although also for many other reasons) so that when Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany flouted the League it didn't have the muscle to stare them down.

At the end of WW2 the US was by far the most powerful nation on earth because we had grown during the war while every other major player had been beaten to a pulp (even the victors) and because only we had nuclear weapons. The Soviet Union was clearly going to become the other greatest power, and would inevitably acquire nuclear weapons. Their tanks and ours were sitting across an invisible (for then; soon it would become the Iron Curtain) line from each other across Europe. A credible international forum for settling disputes before they could escalate was desperately needed.

Did the Allies and the people in the Free World know about the events going on in Europe?

The various steps taken by the Nazis prior to the "Final Solution" were all taken publicly and were, therefore, reported in the press. Foreign correspondents commented on all the major anti-Jewish actions taken by the Nazis in Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia prior to World War II. Once the war began, obtaining information became more difficult, but reports, nonetheless, were published regarding the fate of the Jews. Thus, although the Nazis did not publicize the "Final Solution," less than one year after the systematic murder of the Jews was initiated, details began to filter out to the West. The first report which spoke of a plan for the mass murder of Jews was smuggled out of Poland by the Bund (a Jewish socialist political organization) and reached England in the spring of 1942. The details of this report reached the Allies from Vatican sources as well as from informants in Switzerland and the Polish underground. (Jan Karski, an emissary of the Polish underground, personally met with Franklin Roosevelt and British Foreign Minister Anthony Eden). Eventually, the American Government confirmed the reports to Jewish leaders in late November 1942. They were publicized immediately thereafter. While the details were neither complete nor wholly accurate, the Allies were aware of most of what the Germans had done to the Jews at a relatively early date.

Since the Allies had already invaded Europe by landing in Italy why was the Normandy invasion necessary?

D-Day was necesary. There were over a million German troops in Italy and they had stopped all advances further north from Rome.

Rome was only taken the day before the Normandy landings.

The opening of this front in France was another way of tieing down more Germans so helping the Russians.

It was also the way we would be able to liberate France, holland, belgium and denmark.

Good question because Winston Churchill had envisioned Italy would fall very quickly. He thought the Allies could push up through Italy and swing east through Yugoslavia and into Austria and capturing Vienna within a year. But this proved not to be the case. General Kesselring proposed to Hitler to fight a delaying campaign by applying pressure against the Allied advance. The terrain of Italy was ideal for a German defensive battle.

What did the allies do in 1933?

1933 and the 'Allies'It's not strictly accurate to refer to 'the Allies' at that time, as they was no alliance between Britain, France, the U.S. and certainly not with the Stalinist Soviet Union. At the time the U.S. was isolationist and keen to avoid involvement in Europe.

When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Britain, France, the U.S. and Germany, along with many other countries, were involved in talks aimed at reducing armaments. It took a while for politicians to grasp what was happening in Germany and, of course, longer to act on it.

  • From the summer of 1933 onwards, Germany started to rearm on a substantial scale and in October 1933 suddenly pulled out of the talks and also left the League of Nations.
  • The British government first made sure that there was really no prospect of reviving the talks, then embarked on rearmament, starting with a significant build-up of the RAF. The British rearmament programme was based on a number of assumptions. These included the calculation that the earliest likely date for Germany going to war was 1942, which was actually the same date year as that used by German planners at the time. What the British failed to grasp was the speed and 'dynamism' of developments in Germany.
  • France was deeply divided, and early in 1934 there were very serious disturbances instigated by French fascists hostile to democracy. French military planners believed that France's defenses were good.
  • All countries (except the Soviet Union) were severely affected by the Great Depression and most governments were preoccupied with domestic politics and rather inward looking.
  • It is very easy, with the benefit of hinsight, to moralize. However, as any stockbroker can confirm, hindsight is one of man's greatest gifts!
  • A very small number of people did in fact issue public warnings about Germany. As far as I know, the first British politician to do so was (Alfred) Duff Cooper, who was a junior minister at the War Office at the time. He had the great advantage of a very good knowledge of German. In September 1933 he devoted a public speech to the subject of developments in Germany; he warned about German rearmament and also talked about the concentration camps - but most of the media boggled and described him as a 'warmonger'.

Does Japan have any current allies?

Yes, the United States.

If one defines as an "ally" someone they have consistently lied to, attacked, sought to best and destroy their national banks, companies and the country itself as well as the rest of the world the answer would be yes. However, that does not qualify as either an "ally" "friend" or "partner" the terms the Japanese and German governments both continue to fraudulently use while attacking people and which they have done over and over again including while Japanese planes were heading for the US and for the last 65 years as the Japanese government with the German government has systematically targeted the US economy for destruction in planned sector after planned sector.

The Japanese people consider many people from other nations their friends and want their government to be friends and allied with them. However, since the military has too much destructive influence in their governments, unfortunately it is not the case in terms of the governments which have basically been used to attack other countries more than exist for the benefit of their own citizens.

The importance of supremacy in naval forces for the allies?

During World War II, the importance of the naval supremacy of the Allies can hardly be over-stated. It enabled the Allies to maintain secure supply-lines, which allowed their military forces to remain in top condition against the increasingly worn-down Axis forces. It forced the Axis to maintain occupation troops in all important coastal areas. It also added greater firepower to many battles, as the big guns of their ships could be brought close to the shore and directed against enemy ground-forces.
