User Avatar

Like all dogs bloodhounds might gag if they pull on their collar too much while going for a walk. If this is happening, I suggest you get your dog a harness.

There is also a sickness called Kennel Cough. This isn't very serious but it should be treated. The most common symptom is a dry hacking cough sometimes followed by retching. Many owners describe the cough as having a 'honking sound.' A watery nasal discharge may also be present. With mild cases, dogs continue to eat and be alert and active. Many times, there is a recent history of boarding or coming in contact with other dogs. In more severe cases, the symptoms may progress and include lethargy, fever, inappetence, pneumonia, and in very severe cases, even death. The majority of severe cases occur in immunocompromised animals, or young unvaccinated puppies.

Why were bloodhounds used for tracking slaves?

User Avatar

Bloodhounds were primarily used for their strong sense of smell. Since these slaves escaped from their plantations an downers to track the slaves and bring them back to a plantation the overseer or boss of the slaves would usually use their bloodhound dogs to track the escaped slaves.

They did this because the process of capturing slaves would be gradually easier with the dogs because their key sense of the smelling of everything in their surroundings to everything in far distances, of course it would get weak and very poor when the bloodhound got near water.

But, overall they were used in the process of tracking escaped slaves because their strong sense of smell.

Is a bloodhound stronger than a pitbull?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Pound for pound the American Pitbull Terrier is the strongest dog in the world for it's size, There have been several instances during weight pull competitions that a single APBT has pulled cars and trucks.

And I have personally seen a APBT move a semi truck when it was placed in neutral and the dog was hooked up to it.

No doubt that a husky is a powerful animal given the dog's intended job, But a good solid APBT is no doubt stronger.

Is a black scorpion dangerous?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on the breed there are a number of scorpions which are black or dark coloured. The most common pet scorpion is the emperor scorpion which is used in many movies. This one is actually one of the most docile of the species and its sting is comparable to a bees sting. How ever having said this all stings are potentially harmful if the person being stung is allergic to bee sting or is a sickly character so be careful and avoid handling them either way. Hope this helps. sam x

How often is your bloodhound in heat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Usually in canines, the reproductive cycle continues on a six month basis also if the female has had a litter of puppies. That means if she has her season in August and remains in whelp, she should still have her next season in February - 6 months after her last one.

This can change from breed to breed and from individual to individual but generally the female continues to run on the cycle which she ran on before going into whelp. If she wasn't so regular before, it could be that after pregnancy regularity returns.

How many times stronger is a bloodhounds sense of smell to a humans?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

i think 10 or 15

--------------------------

More than 1000 - actual labs test vary. If a blindfolded person can open a fast food bag and smell a cheesburger and fries and if they are good, they might be able to smell some of the toppings - a good dog can smell every single ingredient, be able to smell who cooked the burger, who put the fries in the bag, what perfume or cologne they were wearing, what brand of laundry detergent they use.
