How do you replace the front side speakers and the side door speakers in a 2003 Toyota Echo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have just replaced the door and dash speakers on a 2001 Toyota Echo and it wasn't an easy task. You have to remove the screws in the door panel and the C-clip from the window crank. Following, pull from the bottom of the door to release several snaps, and finally remove the door panel by pulling upwards.

The real pain about these door speakers is that the factory speakers are custom built into a plastic bracket which is attached with rivets. These can be drilled out to remove the factory speaker. Another headache is that due to window clearance, you only have two options when mounting new speakers. Option 1) buy slim-type speakers. After talking with a Crutchfield representative, it was determined that there is only 1.6" of clearance between the door panel and window when completely down.

The other pain is that the window curves and when completely rolled down, such that the top of the speaker hole is deeper than the bottom of the speaker hole.

Option 2) Buy any speaker and fabricate risers to make fit. This is the route I chose as I already had 6 & 3/4" for the doors. I fabricated four risers for each speaker out of half inch PVC pipe, each with its own custom height, to allow enough clearance for the window. After, I drilled new speaker holes and mounted with 2" #8 metal screws.

I have several detailed drawings of my install if you are interested.. please let me know...

hope this helps

How do you replace the O2 sensor on a 2001 Toyota Avalon?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Every new car, and most cars produced after 1980, have an oxygen sensor. The sensor is part of the emissions control system and feeds data to the engine management computer. The goal of the sensor is to help the engine run as efficiently as possible and also to produce as few emissions as possible.

A gasoline engine burns gasoline in the presence of oxygen (see How Car Engines Work for complete details). It turns out that there is a particular ratio of air and gasoline that is "perfect," and that ratio is 14.7:1 (different fuels have different perfect ratios -- the ratio depends on the amount of hydrogen and carbon found in a given amount of fuel). If there is less air than this perfect ratio, then there will be fuel left over after combustion. This is called a rich mixture. Rich mixtures are bad because the unburned fuel creates pollution. If there is more air than this perfect ratio, then there is excess oxygen. This is called a lean mixture. A lean mixture tends to produce more nitrogen-oxide pollutants, and, in some cases, it can cause poor performance and even engine damage.

The oxygen sensor is positioned in the exhaust pipe and can detect rich and lean mixtures. The mechanism in most sensors involves a chemical reaction that generates a voltage (see the patents below for details). The engine's computer looks at the voltage to determine if the mixture is rich or lean, and adjusts the amount of fuel entering the engine accordingly.

The reason why the engine needs the oxygen sensor is because the amount of oxygen that the engine can pull in depends on all sorts of things, such as the altitude, the temperature of the air, the temperature of the engine, the barometric pressure, the load on the engine, etc.

When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to.

What size wipers for Toyota Echo 2005?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 2005 Toyota Echo takes 22" driver side and 14" passenger side replacement windshield wiper blades. Be sure to always lookup the exact part numbers for the brand of wipers you decide to purchase by asking the clerk, using the book, or by looking it up online. This not only ensures the correct lengths but also the correct attachments. FYI - there are over 22 wiper arm attachments out there - so its not only length but also attachment. What is the problem when the clock works and stereo is on in 2000 Toyota Echo but radio does not work?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most likely a short in the speaker wiring which is common for this car, check your trunk! Cargo can easily hit the speaker (top of trunk space) and break off a wire, creating a short, and disabling the car radio. You can either repair or replace a damaged speaker, or just neatly trim the severed wiring and wrap with electrical tape to get the radio working again but without one (or both) rear speakers.

Echoes

Echoes are usually used to measure distances for example a "Bat" creates a high velocity sound wave that hits its pray "The Moth" and it comes back with an echo of where abouts it is.

Also something called an "Cardioechogram" also, known as a "Cardiogram" is used to measure the heart bps.

So Echoes Are An Useful Measuring Device.

Why would measuring the difference between a first and second backwall echo be more accurate than between the main bang and the first backwall echo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is ringing on the front wall from the big bang that may interfere with detecting the back wall refections. So if you waiting for the second backwall bounce the front wall ringing should be gone and you can measure the difference between the two bounces.

The driving distance between Medford, OR and Stockton, CA is approximately 355 miles. The driving time would be approximately 5 hours 30 minutes if you were to travel non-stop in good driving conditions. (The driving time does not take into consideration conditions which may extend trip time such as weather, road work and rush hour traffic in urban areas.)

Toyata echo pulley noises?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Squeeky noise? This seems to be a common problem/complaint for this car. I had the dealer look at this on mine a while back, he said he "adjusted the drive belt" and the noise went away for about a week. Spraying lubricant around the pulleys makes the noise go away for a couple days (not recommended). Changing the drive belt, and water pump, did NOT make the noise go away. The most common solution is simply to tighten the belt! It is quite common that a mechanic (even the dealer mechanic) may not tighten the belt enough, or that the belt loosens slightly after it is installed and or tightened. Tightening this belt is very easy, you will need a 12mm socket wrench and a 14mm open end wrench. Loosen (do not remove) the two bolts above the alternator that are attached to the metal bracket that allow the alternator to slide (the alternator is attached to the topmost pulley that the drive belt touches, it is at the top front passenger side of the engine compartment). There is a 3rd bolt below the alternator, slightly difficult to see, loosen it using the 14mm wrench, it is often difficult to turn, I recommend penetrating oil and a breaker bar, you only need to turn it a little bit to allow the alternator to pivot. Once all three bolts are loose, you can easily rock the alternator back and forth (same procedure is used to replace the drive belt). To reinstall or tighten the belt you need to pull the alternator toward the front of the car as far as possible. The best way to do this is by putting a pry bar on top of and slightly behind the alternator and pushing up toward the windshield while using the engine as a pivot - this gives you plenty of leverage and allows you to pull the alternator forward. While you are prying, you can tighten the bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket using your left hand as you brace the pry bar with your right hand, to hold it all in place. It is possible that the power steering belt (bottom of engine compartment) needs replaced or adjusted as well. I haven't changed my power steering belt yet because from what I've read its a difficult job and I don't feel like paying someone to do it since its not critical to function or safety. The main drive belt is easy to change. Another possible source of noise could be a worn bearing connected to any of the pulleys touching the belt (air conditioner compressor, water pump, alternator). If replacing or tightening the belts doesn't do the trick, try to isolate the noise by using a mechanics stethoscope or funnel.

How long to break in a new engine?

User Avatar

depends on what engine it is normally for first five hours dont ride over haif throttle, keep the load down and vary your speed, the next 5 hours keep it under three quarter throttle it takes a min of 10 hours to break in a motor some go as far as 15 hours , i would be changing your oil as well after the first 10 hours of use and refill with correct grade and dont overfill remember a carefull run in period will extend the life of the motor up to 3 times longer than a motor that was pushed hard from brand new dont over rev it allow it to slowly bed itself in and youll be rewarded in years to come
