To be hired as a Patient Care Technician ANYWHERE you have to be a Certified Nursing Assistant/Aide first. I am a Certified Patient Care Technician. Research the school you are looking at and make SURE they give you the Certified Nursing Assistant/Aide Certification test along with your Patient Care Technician Certification! I took the Patient Care Technician program at a Business school in Michigan and passed the Certification test administered by NCCTINC ( GO TO www.NCCTINC.com ) I could not get a job anywhere except Davita Dialysis. A Dialysis Technician/Patient Care Technician, where requirements to be hired are: a High School Diploma or GED, and a CPR Certification (where you can take a short class at your local red cross to get CPR Certified). Every Patient Care Technician job at a hospital requires Nurse Aide/Assistant Certification. CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANTS DO THE DIRTY WORK NURSES DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR: ASSIST WITH PERSONAL CARE, SHOWER, CLEAN UP BOWEL MOVEMENT, BLOOD, OR URINE MESSES, HELP WITH EVERYTHING A SICK, DISABLED, OR THE ELDERLY NEED HELP WITH. A CERTIFIED PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN DOES ALL THAT PLUS CAN DO CATHETER CARE, COLOSTOMY CARE, CARE WITH ANY TUBING COMING OUT OF THE BODY THAT NURSING ASSISTANTS CANT TOUCH. IT DEPENDS ON THE STATE, SOME PCT'S (OR ALSO CALLED PATIENT CARE ASSOCIATES) CAN GIVE MEDICATION, DRAW BLOOD, PUT IN AND SET UP INTRAVENOUS INFUSIONS ( IV'S), AND OTHER MORE SERIOUS THINGS. Most Nurse Aides are trained to become Patient care Technician's, there is NO NEED TO PAY MONEY FOR A CERTIFICATION AS A PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN UNLESS YOU RECIEVE THE NURSE ASSISTANT/AIDE CERTIFICATION WITH IT! I wish I would of researched schools first accept just going to one that sounded good.

I was there, I was actually at school when it happened, and my dad used to work in Virginia Tech, and he worked in the building across from the shooting. It was sooo scary, because our school was half a mile away from Virginia Tech, and if you go there, you can see memories of them, like pictures and stuff. So sad! There's still some blood on the sidewalk.

• There were the crime scene investigators and law enforcement.
• There was the medical staff that treated the survivors.
• There were the forensic investigators.
• There were the families that buried their loved ones.
• There were the janitors that cleaned up the mess.
• There were crisis counselors.
• There was the state review panel which issued a report.
• There was the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund which wants it remembered.
• There were the media and they surely numbered in the thousands.

As the other person said everything is correct but one item the janitors we not the ones that clean up the mess it was a team of people cleaned up everything they clean up crime scenes on a daily bases. If the janitors were to clean up the mess the school would have never been able to keep classes going. OSHA is a govt group that works with many different things and the cleaning up of crime scenes is in deed one of them. OSHA would have never let the janitors clean up the mess there not trained to pick up blood and brain tissue and other bodily fluids.

A better answer would be to find a way to require people who exhibit SERIOUS psychological problems to get help before they kill others. However, that would have far-reaching implications that people would not accept, and I'm not sure people should accept them.

The best solution would be to examine history. What has changed in the course of the last 50 years or so that is leading people to use guns to massacre others?

When my dad was in high school, his principal would joke with him about having his gun in his car and visa versa. Both were avid hunters and neither would even have considered using their guns to kill another person. Less than 40 years ago, when I was in high school, it was not uncommon to see gun racks in the back of boy's pick-ups with guns in them in the school parking lot. No one thought anything about it. Today, children can get in trouble for taking what? Kitchen knives, nail files, anything that could remotely be used for a weapon? to school. Virgina Tech still happened, so did Columbine and others.

Fifty years ago, children were taught to take responsibility for their actions, self-control, respect for others, etc. Today, children are taught that if they do something wrong, do not control their actions, etc. they have a disease and it's not their fault, or they're taught it's the other person's fault. An example was when a boy called another boy's mother a name at school and boy #2 punched boy #1. I intervened, of course, and boy #2 was adamant that it was the other boy's fault. I never did get through to that boy that he was responsible for taking his own hand and punching the other boy. That was ten years ago. Earlier in history, children were under no illusions about whose fault it was if they took their hands and hit someone. Why the change?

Fifty years ago, if you did something that you shouldn't, you would be punished and that punishment might be a spanking. My worst one is when I lied and dad took me out behind the shed. Today, people think spanking leads to violent individuals. Think about it. If that is true, shouldn't the massacres have happened back then, not today?

Many other changes have occurred, but I'm sure noone wants to read a book about societal changes that are the root causes of massacres like Virginia Tech, at least not here on WikiAnswers.

No, changing the gun laws is not the answer. Changing the root causes of people killing others in mass is the answer!
