Countries aren't usually for sale, but certain third world nations, principalities and kingdoms are often so in debt that, if you can pay off their amounts owing (usually anywhere from $340,000,000 to several billion dollars), you will, in effect have "bought" their country. You now own the debt they owe, and things will pretty much have to be done your way, since part of the conditions of the purchase was that the existing rulers have to accept your leadership as the new game in town.

A much cheaper alternative is to get several others who are interested in controlling a country, make sure they have enough money between all of you to purchase a small, efficient military force, and stage a surprise coup.... (the less blood shed, the better; just to keep the PR positive when it's reported in the news.) Voila, you (and your co-conspirators) now "own" a country, for roughly half-to-one-million bucks or so.
