To dial a local call (for example, you are in Sofia, calling another number in Sofia), just dial the local number. To dial a number in a different area code, dial the area code (including the trunk prefix 0) and the local number. To dial any call to or from a mobile phone, dial the full national number.
For landlines, there should be a total of 8 digits in the area code and local number, not including the trunk prefix 0. For mobile phones, there should be a total of 9 digits, not including the trunk prefix 0.
To dial a Bulgarian number in international format, replace the trunk prefix 0 of the domestic area code with Bulgaria's telephone country code +359.
(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
