Bobby Fischer was born in 1944. When he was a child he dropped out of school. He started playing chess at a very young age. He played in the chess world championships and won against Spassky in 1972. He later played Spassky again in 1992 and won. George W. Bush stripped him of his US citizenship. He moved to Iceland and became racist against the USA. He said that 9/11/2001 was what the USA deserved. He died in 2008 at the age of 64, ironically the amount of squares on a chess board.

How do you make an Octagon from a 5 inch square board?
This is just a partial because I am looking for the same answer. Start with a 5 by 5 square. Cut each corner with a line that we call X. The space left on each square side between where the lines we drew intersect the square side is the same length, therefore we call that segment "X" also. Now the segments left over are the legs of each of the four triangles and they are equal in length, so that we can call them each "A". We have two equations from this. Pythagorean's theorem A squared plus A squared equals X squared, which is two A squared equals X squared. And then 2A plus X equals 5. If you solve for either then plug in the answer the problem is solved but my equation abilities are 20 plus years gone so that's where I'm at.
My equation abilities are long gone also. How I accomplish this is to create a square that is the same size as what the largest dimension of the octagon will be, point to point. Then I intersect the square corner to corner, then from the center of each side. This forms an "x" and a "+". Measure the distance from the center to the outside of the "+". Then run that measurement from the center out each of the "x" lines. Connect the ends of the "x" and "+" lines and you have an octagon with equal sides. How are chess moves designated with numbers and letters?
Originally the squares were numbered from each side, based on the piece that occupied a file. For example, the file could be Queen's Rook, squares 1 through 8 (QR1 to QR8), Queen's Knight (QN1 through QN8), and so forth. The problem is that the squares will be named as the same file for Black, but with the opposite numbers: White's QR1, the rook's home square, is Black's QR8.
This led to the so-called "algebraic" square numbers, which assign a name to each square as seen from White's position. The leftmost file, the Queen Rook file is the "a file" containing the squares a1 to a8. The next file is the "b file (Queen Knight file, b1 to b8), and so on across to the "h file" (h1 to h8) on the far right of the board. This allows the same square name to be used by both players. White's King is on e1 and Black's king is on e8.
Movement of a piece gives the square to which it moves, such as the opening move Nd3, where the King's Knight moves to King's Bishop-3. For pawn moves, only the ending square is given, such as the opening king pawn move e3 or e4.
