For sterling jewelry jewelers use a sterling silver dip. I like Hagerty's dip. Jewelers also use baking soda and water when they don't have a sterling silver dip. Mix just enough water with baking soda to make a paste. Rub on your jewelry then rinse and dry. I would not use toothpaste. Using toothpaste is an old wife's tale and can harm your jewelry if you have a high polish fine jewelry.

For platinum or gold, use Mr. Clean, water, and ammonia. This is what jewelers use in their ultra sonic to clean jewelry and is safe for all types of jewelry. Half Mr. Clean and water with just a little ammonia.

Well, for small marks, I know some professional illustrators scrape the surface of the paper with a sharp razor's edge to remove ink. This is sometimes used because white-out may not match the color of the paper used. I don't have a source to give you, though, sorry.

I also used a cheaper hepa air filter and that seemed to help a lot too. Polyester clothes may not smell clean depending on what kind of smoke it was. I know they told use that anything we had that was plastic may never come clean, and the baby's toys had to be thrown out because they would remain very toxic. But a lot of the smoke we had was from burning plastic and that's where the real toxicity comes from. I'd assume that polyester clothes would be the same way. Hope this helps you or anybody else.
