They do however, have some very useful applications where they work well.

1. Space. The power they produce can be very useful in keeping our satellites supplied with power.

2. Remote applications. Power far from the grid is needed and solar is a quiet method of getting small amounts of power

3. Back up applications. When the grid fails, solar panels can supply quiet limited power.

It is hoped that solar panels will become more powerful and useful as the technology develops. Until then they still have a working location in our world.
