If you are saying the Pledge of Allegiance or singing the National Anthem, you put your hand over heart. That's the only time I've done it, but the flag should be in sight when doing so.

You go on word art on word and then you have to save a picture of the American flag in to my pictures. Then you choose any word art but edit it in fill effects. Go on the picture tab then select you American flag picture. If it was a good picture the word art will look really effective

Flags originally came into use for military reasons. Flags helped with co-ordination on the battlefield. It was later found that flags were also useful for identification and announcement of allegiances. This made flags incredibly useful on ships.
