How do you I call Italy from UK?

Dial:

  • 00, the international prefix from Spain
  • 39, the country code for Italy
  • the city code (including the initial 0), or the mobile code (beginning with 3)
  • the subscriber's number

In most cases where city codes begin with 0, you drop the 0 on international calls - for example, 01 for Paris becomes +33 1 internationally - but Italy is an exception. To call a number in Rome, 06 becomes +39 06.

In short, calling from Spain, just dial 0039 and then the full number as you would dial it within Italy.

When Italy surrendered the Germans took over, the allied forces continued fighting in Italy and bombing campaigns also continued. There is a lot of folk history regarding the Italian resistance, much of it enhanced ,the one thing true about the results of the war in Italy is that it involved the ousting of the monarchy,of Mussolini and the strong alliance between Italy as a communist state and the USSR.

Did Pope Pius IX support the unification of Italy?

A:

Pope Pius IX opposed the unification of Italy, as this reduced the power and wealth of the papacy. Although the Italians placed no restrictions on his movements, he declared himself a "prisoner of the Vatican" in the hope that "the Catholic powers" would come to his rescue, but no help was ever forthcoming.

Since Pius would not deal with his enemies, they unilaterally through the Law of Guarantees tried to regularise the situation. The Law was generous in its provisions which, as compensation for seized properties, included an annual grant of three and a half million lire, which in those days was a lot of money. Pius refused to accept the money, but tacitly went along with other provisions of the Law.
