What does raw platinum ore look like?

See the related link for a photo.

Like Many metals it has alot to do with the geology of the ground where it is found, such as gold which can be black (oro preto) ect. If it is in crystal form it is in cube shaped, elongated cubed shape, cluster of cube shaped crystals connected. In bigger pieces it can look like silver, a black magnet (pt black) to red and so on. The biggest give away is it has a red tint or aura around it that will blur pictures, blur a 3x magnifying glass if held in the sun and look down the plain of a nice flat side. no it is not your eyes, the red aura has a distorting property. And no it is not something easily seen, but it's there. The last thing I can think of is the texture is close to gold I.E. stands out. As far as flour, black sands put them in something after dried that is water proof and does not soak up any water and do a specific gravity test on them. If the sands are weighing 13 or more specific gravity something not standard to most black sands is in them. Does not mean it is platinum or gold but worth checking out.

Is platinum more dense then gold?

Yes. Platinum is more dense than gold. Elemental platinum is 21.45 g/mL vs 19.3 g/mL (in standard conditions).

Note that the difference is even more pronounced in jewelry because gold and platinum are mixed with other metals to form alloys: 950 (95%) platinum is typically around 20.1 g/mL, while jewelers' gold ranges from 10.9 to 17.8 g/mL depending on caret.

So while the difference in densities for elemental gold and platinum is rather small, it is fairly easy to discern the different density of gold and platinum jewelry.
