So they don't slip off. When you're paddling along and water rushes underneath you you would just slip off the shiny surface without wax. Also when you're standing up you need that grip to stay on. also when you are checking out beach babes boobs you aint concentrating on your grip you have and might fall if you dont wax your board.

How do you catch a tube surfing?
before you paddle into a wave, you need to see which way the wave is breaking. if it is breaking from left to right, then the wave would be called a "right" or "right-hander", if the wave breaks to the right, then once you paddle in it and pop up, you ride to the right, away from the break. when you are surfing along the face of the wave, lean back a bit to slow down, so the tube can catch up with you, then go back to the normal stance, if the tube starts to swallow you, then lean foreward to get a big more speed to avoid a nasty tube wipeout, which hurts if your surfing a shallow sharp reef. if you need alot more speed and you are about to wipeout, try moving a bit up on the board, leaning farther foreward, and use 1 hand to grip the side of the nose on your board to shift your weight to the front, which will help give you lots of speed. if the wave is just moving too fast, then the best thing to do is "bail out" where you jump backwards into the tube away from your board ( to avoid getting smacked by it ) and cover your head to avoid hitting sharp rocks and coral with your skull.
