Wal-Mart is almost certainly not an example of pure competition. Pure competition is characterized by a very large number of sellers - each with an almost infinitesimally small market share - selling a non-differentiated product. Wal-Mart's market share is immense (as you stated) and they differentiate their product through branding measures that include everyday low prices, convenient hours, etc. There can be tough competition in every market structure (except monopoly) but that does not mean that the market meets the definition of pure competition.

That is a tough question. Umm... no. You would never know unless you knew every store in the world. And their are probably other stores that have lower prices, such as Serrendipity that only sell their items for $1 each.

It depends on where you live. I grew up in a town of about 15,000 with no chain grocery stores. However we did have a mall with stores such as JC Penney, Target, and K-Mart. For groceries it was Walmart hands down. For everything else it was a toss-up.

I now live in the Seattle area with major grocery chains like Safeway, Albertsons, and Fred Meyer. Here Walmart is much less competitive. I did some research today and noticed frozen pizza, spaghetti sauce and chips were cheaper. While I paid more for milk, cheese, and frozen chicken.

Yes, but if you do not have a receipt and that walmart doesn't carry the item you are trying to return (hence, the item is not in the store's local inventory and cannot pull up a price for the item) then you may not be able to return it.
