Should you give free condoms and syringes to drug addicts?

If syringes are made scarce for IV drug users they're going to share. If condoms are not attainable people will get careless and go without. These things are made readily available to help prevent the spread of HIV.

What are the long term effects of snorting pills?

makes your nose bleed and can cause loss of smell. but I've snorted pills for years and i can still smell fine so i say go for it.

^ The above is a terrible answer and should be taken serious. Who ever posted this must not be in full addiction to whatever drug they are snorting. First off, just nose bleeds and not being able to smell are two very minor problems when it comes to snorting drugs. I am not a doctor, I am an addict who is trying to get better but I'm not your average addict in that I do a lot of researcher, am attempting to get a degree (not going well due to my addiction) and read a lot on subjects I'm interested in. I have studied natural health for 7 years now and snorting drugs, besides being a waste of the drug (in terms of pills/prescription meds), it damages the lungs significantly, of course it damages your sinus cavity and then of course any use of drugs damages the body immensely. How anyone can promote drug use and snorting is ignorant and has not fallen completely into the addiction. Because I do not have an addictive personality normally, it took me about 8 years or more to become an everyday user when it comes to pain meds. I feel in love and had a mental addiction almost immediately but I was able to have control over it for the first decade almost but it took me staying home all day to start using it more frequently and then to the everyday and there is NOTHING fun about it, NOTHING!! I mean that with every sense of the word. I don't enjoy the high anymore, if I even get high. I need so much of it, it costs me a rent payment just for a few days of being well. I need it to function or else I'm not happy and extremely sick. My life has gone nowhere and I'm extremely depressed and the pills don't even help anymore. It was the ultimate trap, with the facade that having all day access to the pills would be the ultimate life and I would have fun and be happy, only to find out that it would make my life so miserable it's too much to bare. But now its too late, I'm trapped, if I stop I'm sick for days if not a week, and when that is through, then it's months of hopeless depression boarding on suicidal, with no energy or motivation to do anything. The mental addiction is the hardest if not impossible to beat now and if there is a Satan, then this is his ultimate drug. It lures you in with the appeal of not feeling any emotions and fake happiness and once you are in, you are in for good and you no longer are happy and nothing in life will bring you joy, not even the drug you gave up your life for. Please, for anyone reading this, do not listen to the niavity of people who make careless comments like this comment above mine. If you are not physcially addicted yet and completely trapped, stop now. I know it is the hardest time to stop because you get the most joy at this stage of the addiction but I promise you, I give you my word of honor and will bet you any amount of money you can think of, it does not turn out well and you will only regret and be miserable. To get out of the end stage I'm in, is worse than surving the epocolypse. Most people in my stage of addiction never make it out, only die. Do not let yourself get there. It is not fun at all. You can only get so high and eventually you do run out of the good feelings it use to produce.

I'm a 13 year old boy that loves to wear diapers is there something wrong with me?

You have a form of paraphilia, an unusual attraction (almost always sexual in nature) to odd objects. While harmless in inself, you would do well to speak with a professional about it, as it is an issue that will undoubtedly cause you many problems and a lot of embarrassment later in life.

Is it safe to take Claritin while on suboxone?

No it is a very bad idea to do this. There are two man drugs in suboxone, they are bupamorphine Buprenorphine and Naltrexone Naloxone. The bupamorphine Buprenorphine is in the opiate family and binds to your opiate receptors which prevents withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Also since bupamorphine Buprenorphine saturates your opiate receptors any other opiates you take will not have any effect and you will not feel it at all, so its just a waste of money. Naltrexone Naloxone is a drug that make it impossible to shoot up suboxone and also will make you VERY sick if other opiates are taken on top of it. If you take any kind of opiate with suboxone the naltrexone Naloxone will send you in to VERY painful withdrawal. Do not do this, you might end up in the emergency room as well. If you are going to take opiates wait at least 3 days after you have taken suboxone if you want to actually feel the opiate because it takes that long for the suboxone to get out of your system.

You will not get sick if you are already stabilized on suboxone. If you are taking suboxone daily and you take any opiate on top of it, it will not make you sick. The naltrexone Naloxone is only activated when the pill is crushed for potential IV use, otherwise not enough of the naltrexone Naloxone is activated to make you sick. I have taken pain killers within hours of taking my suboxone to try and relieve some of the pain that the suboxone was not taking care of and I didnt get sick.

How do you get rid of a raspy voice from smoking?

Yell alot, smoke, smoke, and smoke some more. Cough and clear your throat constantly, but when you have accomplished the rasp in your voice, it won't be so sexy when you are known for your loud mouth, obnoxious behavior, and cigarette smell. Talking too much, singing too much and of course smoking too much Singing without warming up will give you a raspy voice. Stevie Nicks got her signature voice this way by accident. It creates scar tissue and nodules on your vocal cords. It is something that I would not want to have.

What causes sexual addiction?

If you are referring to the real addiction that goes above normal range and starts to become a psychological problem, then it's called "hypersexuality".

It's really debatable whether it's a real "addiction" or "mental condition" at all as far as that goes, however.

Some treat it like a normal addiction (such as a drug one), while some think it's a form of sexual compulsivity (associated with obsessive compulsive disorder in a sense) and impulsivity.

Others say it's a myth made up by today's culture/society.

In my opinion, an addiction is any activity which you do on a considerably higher level than others, which you can't cease even when others are bother by it and even when it does damage to any area of your life, when it alters your behavior in any way and when you tend to prioritize it above every other thing present in your life.

I also recall "nymphomania" being the term referred to hypersexual women exclusively and I briefly recall something about "premature ejaculation" as a male reference to it.

Do beauty contest insult women?

Definitely not! A prestigious and major beauty contest or competition has broader and profound meanings. I got this good answers from www.thegreatqueens.blogspot.com.

What a Beauty Queen is...You may ask, "Just what is a beauty queen?"

You know the English language is indeed so rich! Any single word could mean so many different things.

Well, a queen means a wife of a king. The word queen also means a woman who holds a preeminent or outstanding position (superior to all others) in a certain field or domain. A beauty contest champion or winner IS a queen because as the winner, she holds the top and outstanding position in the field of beauty, and she is formally crowned (wears an official crown), bestowed an official scepter, and conferred an official title in a formal process (of election and proclamation) through a national or global contest/competition. Thus, the winner or queen is called a beauty queen.

A beauty queen is a different kind of queen! She is not a political queen like a nation-kingdom queen (monarch). She is not political. But a beauty queen is A SOCIAL QUEEN who functions as a national or international ambassador of goodwill and amity (as well as tourism), as a national/global role model, an environmental advocate, a philanthropist, a humanitarian, etc.

In the world or global scene/society or in GLOBAL SOCIAL STANDING, compared to a monarch (kingdom queen or king) and their counterparts (first lady, president or prime minister), the elected queens in the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss International, Mrs. Universe, Mrs. World global competitions are REAL GLOBAL QUEENS (real global persons). Monarchs /royalties (kingdom queens or kings), presidents, or heads of states/countries are NOT. Why? How come?

It's because the election and coronation of a monarch/kingdom queen is only an internal affairs or event of a nation-kingdom (even if it is well-hyped or very publicized through print, broadcast and online media internationally), while the election and coronation of a world beauty queen (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss International, Miss Maja International) is TRULY GLOBAL, involving and participated in by so many nations of ALL continents of the entire planet, and watched/witnessed on TV live at the same time by more than 2 billion people worldwide!

A world beauty queen IS a global queen while a nation-kingdom queen (monarch or royalty) is NOT.

Though a world beauty queen reigns for only a year, the size, extent, and scope of her title and position, reign and queenship cover the entire/whole world, global and worldwide (indeed, she is a truly, global queen!); while the reign of a kingdom queen or monarch/royalty is LIMITED to her nation-kingdom or countries-colonies only (not global nor worldwide).

How do you get addicted to alcohol?

Daily drinking "can" be a sign/symptom of alcoholism. However it is not the reason a person becomes addicted. Addiction is a type of disease with a long, descriptive name: It is a Biopsychosocial disease. [bio-psycho-social]

This means that the disease of addiction has a biological component, a psychological component and a social component. The frequency that one drinks can actually have very little do with whether or not a person becomes addicted to alcohol. It has a great deal to do with how the body reacts to the alcohol and then how the individual interprets those reactions.

For some people, very infrequent binge drinking can be a sign that there is an addiction. If a person starts drinking and generally doesn't stop until they are sick, passed out or blacked out... there is a high likelihood of an addiction.

Most become addicted because their brain gets used to needing the alcohol to feel good, or to even feel normal. People who have a genetic predisposition to addiction can become addicted fairly quickly. People who begin drinking at a young age (before the brain is finished developing) can become addicted fairly quickly. People who do not have the biological predisposition can drink large enough quantities over time to become addicted.

Why is sucking your thumb so addictive?

Depending on your sucking style, that is, the angle of your thumb, the length of time sucking per day, the intensity, and length of time for your habit in years, you may or may not have any affects. The worst case scenario for active, intense thumb suckers is an open bite where the top and lower teeth do not overlap in the resting, postural position and/or some overjet, otherwise called "buckteeth". The best case scenario is no dental affects and a very calm disposition because thumb sucking has been proven to reduce tension and to even raise the levels of dopamine, a natural, body produced hormone, that elicits good internal feelings. The great majority of thumb suckers have no to minimal dental affects.

What if you eat and throw up but exercise?

The stomach can't compress ingested material from the stomach to the small intestine, so the stomach attempts to compress the food, and occasionally forces it back up to the mouth, forcing the victim to vomit the "excrement". The reason it tastes so bad is because a thin shell of stomach acid travels with the vomit as it comes to the mouth.

How long does it take to recover after you stop taking methadone?

Acute methadone withdrawal can last for up to two weeks, depending on the degree of addiction. Methadone metabolism produces long-lived metabolites that are also narcotic and create withdrawal symptoms. The best method involves SHORT TERM Suboxone therapy, preferably inpatient, with other medical support. Post acute withdrawal can last for several months, and ideally involves other kinds of care, principally emotional support, nutrition, exercise and medical evaluation for symptoms that may have been covered up by the addiction.

Recovery is a different issue entirely; it involves getting our emotional, physical and social life back to something like normal and, depending on how hard we are willing to work at it, can take from a few months to a couple of years -- to never.

How long does suboxone stay in your mouth?

It usually dissolves completely within five minutes, but if they have been on a shelf for awhile can take up to 10 minutes. Suboxone should only be taken sublingually(dissolved under tongue), if not taken this way it is virtually ineffective.

Can you take suboxone and phentermine together?

I was presrcibed phentermine today and I am also on suboxone. The doctor said it is ok to take as long as I go to the doctor every two weeks for a checkup. I did some research and phentermine is a controlled substance in the U.S., it is legal here and its also an anphentamine which means it's easilly addictive. If your on suboxone for being addicted to something else, your doctor will probably have a hard time giving it to you. That is why I have to go every two weeks for a check up. They are ok to take together but there are major side effects. Some people have arymthia's in their heart.. including sinus arythmya, which taking phentermine with an arythmia can be deadly. I would suggest getting and EKG before taking phentermine to make sure you dont have one!I know there are people who would take phentermine without a doctors knowledge and I would highly suggest NOT doing it!! Def, get checked by a doctor first to make sure you wont have complications!! I am not a doctor, but this is the information I was told! So please see a doctor before taking phentermine alone, yet again while taking suboxone at the same time!!

Why is heroin both physically addictive and psychologically addictive?

Heroin is physically addictive because it is an opiate, and all opiates are physically addictive.

Heroin is psychologically addictive because it produces desirable feelings and emotions in the user, and also because when the user is physically addicted, they will become physically sick if they do not have their dose. They develop an aversion to doing without because of this.

How do you know if someone is on drugs?

The way you can tell if someone is on drugs is if they come to work and their hair looks a mess or if they get down on thae floor and start quivering.

That's not always true--quite a few drugs don't make someone lose interest in grooming or start quivering. There are four things that are almost always a giveaway:

1. Major changes in the person's social circle.

2. Unexplained changes in the person's financial situation.

3. Significant changes in behavior.

4. Changes in grooming, dress or appearance.

I know, I know, a drug addict is supposed to shun all his old friends, need a ton of money right now, start screwing up at work and look like a dirtbag. That's not always true. People with some level of intelligence who start using drugs might give outwardly positive changes. Someone who's been real reclusive all their life might become a social butterfly. A moderate-means person might suddenly have a LOT of money no one can determine the source of. They might change from being an average worker or student to a top performer, and a lady who's never shown any real interest in "girly" stuff might all of a sudden start dressing really well and wearing really elaborate hair and makeup styles. This is a camouflaging tactic--"If I become a great person outwardly no one will notice I've started shooting heroin."

Here's one I find weird: one of the ways to tell a meth addict is if they use a lot of hand motions during their communication. I guess I'm really in trouble--I have always talked with my hands.

Can suboxone get in your system by touching it?

No, suboxone cannot get into your system by touching it. This drug has to mix with your saliva or it won't be effective. You place it under your tongue for about 5 to 10 minutes until it dissolves.

The fastest way to get suboxone out of your system?

The only way to take Suboxone is to dissolve it under your tongue. Swallowing it won't work, because it won't dissolve in your stomach. And don't even think about crushing it up and snorting it or smoking it; it simply does not work that way. You can do that with heroin, and it sort of works with Vicodin and oxycodone, but not with Suboxone.

Furthermore, the maximum amount of Suboxone you can take at one time is 32 milligrams (four 8-mg pills). Taking any more than that will have no effect, so don't even try: it's just a waste of expensive medication.

If you have taken suboxone will you feel a 30mg OC?

It depends on several different factors: how much suboxone you took, how long have you been taking it, and if you only took a suboxone once between taking pills: how high your tolerance is to oxycodone.

If you only took one dose of suboxone (between 2mg and 8mg) you should be able to feel the full effect of the OC after 24 hours. After about 12 hours you'll feel some effects, but definitely not what you would normally expect from 30mg of OC. If you've been taking Suboxone for several days in a row, it would be difficult to guage how long it will take for you to feel the full effects. Suboxone has a 36 hour half life so it builds up in your system. The longer you take it and the higher the dose, the longer it will take for it to leave your system completely.

What effect does drug abuse have on economy?

Durg abuse supports a fairly large segment of the economy: law enforcement, international efforts, large government bureaucracies like DEA, the law enforcement equipment industry, the legal industry and the prison industry. This "War on Drugs" funnels billions of dollars into a broad variety of industries and agencies that would otherwise be unable to justify their existence. That is why there is a war, instead of organized, mandatory treatment for addicts. It is also why we do not have legalized drugs -- except for alcohol, the worst one of all, and its little buddy nicotine.

What is a psychological addiction?

A psychological addiction is a mental craving for a certain drug and can even be described as an overwhelming obsession with the drug and the feelings that result from the usage of that drug.

It occurs as conscious thought and choices lead us to stimulate the pleasure centers. The subconscious mind is stimulated by these pleasures and motivates the person to repeat these acts for pleasure. If it is not satisfied, the subconscious creates a craving for the pleasure producing substances or acts, and this creates a physical obligation. Psychological addictions last a lifetime. An alcoholic always considers himself an alcoholic because he knows he is just one drink away from being an alcoholic again, the same for other addictive substances and drugs.
