Why do black women straighten their hair?

Because our society has about as much taste in women as a guy who orders his burgers with nothing but the meat and cheese. To put it simply: the European standard of beauty is held up as the one and only ideal beauty in the western world. Black women use harmful chemicals to straighten their hair because of this. Jewish and Middle Eastern women get nose jobs because of this. Asian women have surgery to change their eyelids because of this. There are women from India who actually bleach their own skin because of this. It is unfair. Through the generations, hair straightening has sadly become so ingrained in black culture that most women do not even realize they are carrying the torch of their own oppression. Styling natural black hair is nearly a lost art. Even when they are aware of this cultural bias, many black women choose hair straightening and weaves anyway because there are simply more options.

Do hairs grow from the bottom or at the tips?

Hairs grow from hair follicles located beneath the skin's surface. The cells in the follicles divide and push the hair out through the skin, which is why hair growth appears to be from the roots at the bottom.

How do you dread your hair?

Making Dreadlocks

Backcombing

You will need:

Dread Wax

Residue Free Shampoo

Metal Comb

Rubberbands

I recommend the DreadHead Supa Dupa Dread Kit:It has everything you need and they guarantee your hair will dread.

1. Wash your hair with a residue free shampoo and let it air dry.

2. Section your hair into sections that are 1 inch by 1 inch. You can use

rubberbands to hold the sections while you section the rest of your hair.

3. Start in the back of your head, remove the rubberbands and start teasing the

hair towards your scalp. Only backcomb about a half inch of hair at a time,

this will keep your dreads from forming loops.

4. Once you have finished backcombing the that section of hair, put a

rubberband on the tip and one on the root. Add about an M&M's worth of wax

to the dreadlock and palm roll it.

5. Do this to all the sections of hair.

Yes and no. Twisted dread extensions need the heat to set the fibers. Natural dreads are usually heat sealed, too, but if you would rather not use heat you can make natural dreads and just palm roll them constantly. NEVER use dry heat such as a hair dryer, as it will melt the hair.
