What are appropriate sports for back pain and kidney pain?

If you suffer from back pain or kidney pain, you may want to try sports that don't rely on your back or lumbar region. Perhaps riding recumbent bikes, weightlifting for other parts of the body, perhaps walking, running, or jogging, and perhaps kayaking (depending on how your back pain works). A doctor can examine you and help you determine what sports fit with your physical limitations.

What does it mean if you can fit your finger into your cervix when checking IUD strings - still feel the strings but have never felt the cervix open like this also having extreme back pain?

You should definitely go to your doctor as soon as you can. This could be some kind of infection, like pelvic inflamatory disease, or your IUD could be causing some kind of abnormal stress/changes to your cervix. Either way, anytime something that abnormal happens, you need to go see your OBGYN.

What is mild bilateral facet arthrosis?

This term is one that sounds very much like a doctor's diagnosis.

Mild means that the condition is either very early in development or displays only slight or occasional findings in comparison to a condition that might be called moderate or severe.

Bilateral means that something is found on or occurs on both sides or opposite sides of something; it means on two sides. Very often in medicine this term is used to mean that something is on both the left and right side of the area being described.

Facets are small spinal joints found on the back or rear portion of the spine that support and guide movement of the spine to normal limits.

Arthosis means an early or slight development that is similar to Arthritis, but it has not yet advanced too far to actually be arthritis but it will someday if it continues; it means a very early or pre-arthritis condition.

Taken together the term means that the doctor thinks a person has a mild early condition in which mild arthritis is starting in the facet joints on both sides of the spine at an undetermined part of the spine.

What does bilateral neural exit foraminal stenosis of moderate severity at the L5 S1 mean?

A disc is a cartilage component that separates 2 vertabrae. By separating these two structures, it allows a space for 2 spinal nerves to exit, one on each side. A spinal nerve is a nerve that comes directly from the spinal cord. Spinal nerves are always in pairs. They extend from the cord and exit bilaterally through the neural foramen, or "spinal nerve holes." When a disc bulges, it decreases in height. By doing this, the size of the foramen are decreased. The foramen are determined by the disc height. As a disc degenerates, the foramen becomes more and more narrowed. The spinal nerves can be put in great danger if the disc continues to degenerate. A chiropractor is the answer to this problem. Surgery should be a last resort. It's like a hard boiled egg. It can't be unboiled. Thomas A. Bea

Can unusual dull lower back pain that feels like its in your kidneys be an early sign of pregnancy?

Yes, it can be. Many women experience period like cramping (also in their backs) around the time that their period is due. Take a pregnancy test (the earliest ones you can take are 5-7 days before an expected period) to get your answer though, as lower back pain can also be caused by other things.

Should you get back pains in less than 1 months pregnancy?

Yes you can have back pain. It is one of the early signs of pregnancy. Your body begins to through many changes shortly after conception. some things you will notice, others you won't. I been having low back pain for a week now and suspect that I might preg, but it is too early to tell now. Other symptoms I've had are cramping, sleepiness, constipation, spotting, lots of white mucus and low back pain. I have also been very moody. Its only been 8 days after conception.

Lower back pain worse when urinating?

In male patients problems the prostate can refer pain to the lower back. If the pain is from trying to urinate the problem could be due to inflammed or abnormal prostate. If the same pain presents when bearing down to pass a bowel movement then the problem is most likely spinal in nature. The only way to determine this would be via an exam from your medical or chiropractic doctor.

What can you do for massive muscle spasms and charlie horse's in my left leg and hip?

Not much that I know of, actually. A friend of mine had a constant charlie horse for three days, sometimes dying down to a dull throb and other times so painful she couldn't walk. Eventually they go away, but until then stretch slowly and steadily, and try to avoid whatever position you were in when it cramped. (I know when I bring my knee up at an angle and hold it there, like to tie my shoe, it starts cramping--I don't know if it was something like that or something else or not that caused yours.)

Why do i have lower back pain with pain in the right leg and numbness in several of my toes on right foot?

That, my friend, is a herniated disk (and a bad one if your toes are numb) at one of the lower lumbar vertebrae, likely at L4/L5 or L5/S1.

I'm sure you're already staying off your feet, if you can even walk. You need to get to a doctor ASAP. You cannot let numbness go untreated or you risk permanent nerve damage.

Key things to do:

1. Stay off your feet and don't lift anything over 2 lbs.

2. When lying down, lie on your side in a fetal position, with a pillow or cushion between your knees to ease pressure on the spine and hips. DO NOT lie on your back (you probably can't anyway) as it puts pressure on the lower spine. If you must, put cushions or pillows underneath your legs (between the butt and knees) to raise your legs and reduce lower spine pressure.

3. If you have any anti-inflammatories available, take them. If not, 2 of my favorite fast-acting OTC drugs are Bayer Back and Body Aspirin, and Tylenol Rapid Release gel tabs. Aleve is good also, but isn't in prescription doses. 500mg is the standard prescription dose every 4-6 hours.

4. You need to get to a doctor (preferably a Neurosurgeon) ASAP. Neurosurgeons don't always cut - they also perform routine procedures, but the point is they're the most qualified to diagnose your problem. If you can't get an appointment immediately, tell them and make them understand the seriousness of your problem.

5. If you can't get an appointment within 48 hours, your best option is to head to a hospital emergency room. Your immediate problem is getting pictures taken to determine how bad the damage is. After that they can determine what's needed to fix it.

6. Start tracking your pain in a Pain Diary. Note the day, date, time of day, kind of pain (sharp, burning, throbbing, aching, etc.), and use a simple diagram of the body to note the location. Use a 1-10 scale to describe the severity of the pain, 1 being not bad, 10 being "please put me out now". Bring it with you to whoever you see for treatment. Pain diaries are used normally by those of us in Pain Management programs, but they're useful for everyone in showing your doctor actual evidence of your pain. Unfortunately, until pictures are taken, few doctors will take your word for it on how bad it is.

Should you get a doctors advice as you have a stiff neck and pain in the back of your head after starting a course of amoxicillin. I take warfarin?

Yes, you should go back to the doctor who prescribed the amoxicillin to you to inform him or her about the neck stiffness and pain at the back of your head. Remind this doctor that you are already taking warfarin (an ati-coagulant) even if it is this same doctor who put you on that medication; sometimes this kind of information gets lost or forgotten. You want to be sure your doctor has all available information in mind when making decisions about your treatment.
