The same thing happens when you are standing on the surface of a large a sphere such as the earth. In all directions, the earth curves away from you. This creates the horizon. You start out with a rubber band, then you take your index finger and, after stretching it, twist the rubber band around it by wrapping it around the finger and turning it upside down and repeat until it feels secure, next, simply roll it off the finger with your other index finger and thumb, then you just start wrapping other rubber bands around it until it gets big enough. It takes a lot of time, and a lot of rubber bands. (I've made one over 3" in diameter! It took around 500 bands, and over a month, but it really helps with stress!)
