Find the drain plug on the oil pan underneath the car, take the plug out drian the oil in a bucket. after the oil has stopped draining,replace the plug and take off the filter.located near the plug with in a foot or so. replace filter. Fill oil, about 5 quarts, start engine, shut off engine check oil if not full TO MARK on dip stick. Add more.

With all the older cadillac's this was a very common problem... The easy way to open the hood.
1. find the hood release lever in the car...
2. on the back of the plastic release lever you will see a medal wire attached to it..
3. remove this wire from the plastic... and forget about ever using that junk again..
4. Get a pair of vice grips and attach them to the tip on the end on the wire you just removed..
5. now all you have todo is just gently yank on that wire a few times and the hood should open... if it doesn't have a friend pull up and down on the hood while you keep yanking on the wire...
6. This will fix your problem... now that you're under the hood make sure you clean and lube up all the parts going to the hood locking assembly so it will work easier from this point on....
7. or pay a mechanic 300 bucks to put in a new hood cable..

Front are easy to access, rear is the same but very tight. Remove plastic engine cover. The Northstar engine uses a coil pack that is directly over the spark plugs. It is right up front on top of the engine. It is held on by approx. 9 screws. Unscrew these and unplug the coilpack. spark plugs are located in the four holes in front of you. Same for rear of engine, just a little harder to get to.

Open the trunk pull up the rug piece (after u remove the spare tire cover) and your gonna need a 1/4 inch socket 7mm its best fitted to a cordless drill or screwgun to speed up the process of removing the 10 or 12 bolts on the hatch cover you will see towards the right rear (looking down at the trunk furthest corner to the right) remove this cover and you will find the top of the fuel pump assembly module (fuel sender) start by disconnecting all plugs on the sender (and no contrary to popular belief you don't need to disconnect the battery before you do this BUT it is good safety to prevent your jackass buddy turning the key on to listen to the radio while the pump is plugged in with the fuel lines off BIG MESS IN YOUR TRUNK! ANYWAYS after removing the electrical connectors and assumming it hasn't been running (since your changing the pump) and there is no pressure in the tank (if there is simply open the hood take off the cover on top of the engine (plastic) by removing two 12 mm nuts on the top and simply pull up and towards you. then locate the fuel rail you will find a black plastic cap or a uncovered Schrader valve (which looks like the valve stem on your tire) take off the cap or if no cap take a pocket screwdriver or a pen and depress the pin in the center WATCH OUT FOR SPRAYING FUEL at 45 psi. After that's done remove the lines from the sender unit and turn the collar on the top securing it to the tank (there is a special tool for this but if you get creative you can get it off if its a metal locking ring you can hit it off with a screwdriver and hammer going around the ring ring slowly. then remove the sender unit (careful of the thin metal arm that's your fuel gauge level sensor) slightly tilt the sender when you almost have it out in order to help clear the level arm, CAREFUL FUEL WILL BE INSIDE THE SENDER UNIT DEPENDING ON HOW FULL YOUR TANK IS THE SEND COULD HOLD ABOUT A PINT OF FUEL IN ITSELF then reverse procedure to install have fun

Can you bypass the AC pulley on 86 cadillac deville?
I'm assuming this is equipped with the 4.1 liter engine, and it's FWD. Since it runs off the serpentine belt, not easily. If anyone makes a bypass pulley for it, that would work, but I've never seen one for these cars. All it would be is a bracket that bolts in place of the AC compressor and has a pulley on it for the belt to go over it. It would just be like having an extra idler pulley. If you have the skills and equipment, you could make one. If you're accustomed to fabricating (ie - a machinist, tool and die maker, or custom car builder) you could make it yourself fairly easily, but I wouldn't recommend this for amateurs.

How do you replace a water pump on a 1999 deville?
This car has a 4.6L Northstar? If not, disregard my answer.
First, check that your new water pump came with a new o-ring. If not (many brands don't) you need to get one before you begin. You will also need some silicone sealer (suck as GM assembly adhesive or Permatex Ultra-black) and new antifreeze.
Remove the air cleaner, then the upper radiator hose, and then the (small) water pump drive belt.
There will be 1 or 2 small brackets in this area you need to remove now.
Then, unbolt the water pump housing (cover over the water pump.)
Using a Northstar Water Pump Tool, rotate the water pump clockwise to remove it.
Remove the old o-ring and put a new one in place using a dab of sealer to hold it.
Now put everything back together and fill the cooling system.
