Is cardio better than weightlifting for fat loss or ideally should you do both?
Both cardio and strength training are beneficial for weight loss. For quicker results, both should be performed up to 6 days a week. Strength training, like lifting weights or using the weight machines at a gym, builds muscle mass and helps tone your body. If paired with cardio, which helps burn calories and shed body fat, you will achieve weight loss and a lean, fit figure. Keep in mind that daily exercise is not the only factor that you have to consider when it comes to weight loss. Changing the way you live, such as what you eat, or how much sleep you get at night, also comes into play. Live a healthy lifestyle, eat well, exercise often, and you will achieve your goal. :)
The best way to keep a flat stomach is a combination of eating right and exercise. Some foods can bloat you up even when you are not fat - to loose fat you can do cardio to tone up, you can do sit ups and weight training.
What will keep you tummy flat are the abdominal muscles but you must also avoid excessive fat in the area. Abdominal muscles can be trained and developed through targeted workouts and the diet must be a low-fat diet.
Also try belly dancing it will improve your tummy and it'll be in a really good shape.

It is and it isn't. It completely depends on what your aim is i.e loose weight, get aerobic fit or cardio fit! In themselves they are quite different. So it practically depends on the individual and his or hers needs. :)
How can you increase your cardio-respiratory endurance?
Practice. Practicing or training is the way to improve anything. It is the same with fitness exercise. Start slowly, slightly increase what you do at each training session, and give yourself sufficient recovery time between training sessions. Before starting any exercise program, please get the blessing of your physician in advance.
If you have been doing nothing at all, try walking every other day. At each walk, just walk a bit farther until you are walking for four miles nonstop. Then, instead of increasing your distance, just decrease your time slightly until you are walking four miles every other day in between 56 minutes and one hour. You may then go on to a jogging or running program. Do it the same way: start slowly and work a bit harder each time. For more information about cardio exercise, including cardio walking, see the page links, further down this page, listed under Related Questions.

How long to lose weight by exercise?
A pound of fat contains roughly 3200 calories, so whatever amount of time it takes at a certain intensity to burn 3200 calories is more or less how long it will take to burn a pound of fat. I say more or less because the majority of energy used during exercise comes from glycogen (carbohydrates) instead of fat. Assuming this glycogen were not immediately replaced, your body would have to get that energy from fat after exercise.

Cardio exercise without losing weight?
Is it possible to do cardiovascular excercise without losing weight? Sure, if you replace the calories you burn during exercise (along with the additional calories burned as your body recovers post-exercise) you won't lose weight. Calories in, calories out. It's important that athletes who already are in top shape with little body fat remember this, as it will allow them to maintain their high levels of performance while minimizing muscle breakdown.

You're born with these ratios, unless you get some hack to give you implants. Fat loss can only happen from your whole body, not single zones. There is no way whatsoever to grow fat on your bum and boobs while having it also disappear off your waist. You can gain fat everywhere by getting an office job and eating McDonalds. You can lose it everywhere by eating well and getting regular exercise. But you can't shrink one and grow the other. You can, however, lose bodyfat and thereby shrink your belly as well as other regions (women's faces & boobs tend to lose fat before other regions), and also do some difficult weights as well to enhance your shoulders and upper/outer back muscles (lats) - this can make your torso look more tapered/V-shaped as it becomes your waist. Take up latin dancing and do squats or leg presses in the gym and you will make your bum muscles firmer and stronger. The fat hiding these muscles may make them difficult to see, dependent on the amount there. But overall, unless you are a goth who likes corsets, you can't shrink your waist by itself.
Another way to big a thin waist and bigger butt is by using those straps that go around your waist and when ever you eat or exercise , use that waist band and make sure it tight but i wouldn't recommend that because it unhealthy to do that but that method has been used back then in the times of Marie Antoinette and so forth.

How do you lose 40 pounds in 40 days if you work out 40 minutes a day 5 times a week?
Don't even try it, it's not healthy.
It took you a long time to put the weight on, it needs to come off slowly as well.
..............................................................................................................................
I disagree, but not just anyone should try. If you are 40 pounds overweight and still at least partially active, I believe it is VERY possible. I used to weight 205 (6'1")...and gained allot of weight through mainly inactivity and drinking alcohol. I've recently recommitted to getting back in good shape. I am 33 and decided to take the low carb, high protein route, while working out at least 30 minutes a day and walking 5 miles a day...I lost 6 fat pounds in 5 days. Water intake is very important as well. There are allot of resources out there for losing weight. The biggest issue I see is with being committed to the ideal, and not getting side tracked. Positive reinforcement first thing in the morning is key in my eyes...from post-it notes on the frig, to scheduling daily activities. My point is that it is very much possible and not unhealthy unless you are in very bad shape. People are genetically different so it may not work for everyone!
Is biking considered cardio and can you lose weight from it?

What is the ideal weight for a 5 foot 8 inch cyclist?
There may be some slight differences between male and females (which you didn't specify).
I'm not sure why cyclists would be particularly different from other athletes, although I'm sure each sport has a little variation depending on the muscle groups they utilize the most, and weight is certainly a factor in hill climbing.
According to notes, Lance Armstrong is 5' 9 1/2", and has weighed between 163 (in 1999) and 174 lbs (in 1993).
Most body weight formulas calculate about 5 or 6 lbs per inch.
So, if you are 1.5 inches shorter than Lance Armstrong, then you would be about 9 lbs lighter, or somewhere around 154 to 165 lbs.
There is a link to an ideal body weight calculator in the related links section below.
According to that the people's choice "Ideal Weight" is somewhere around 142 lbs for females, and 156 for males. 151 lbs for the "Devine" formula for males, and 141 lbs using the "Devine" formula for women.
This isn't too far off from what we calculated with the Lance Armstrong example, although at least in his early years, Lance Armstrong was actually a bit heavier than predicted.
