Is emphysema physiologic dead space or shunt?
Emphysema is a shunt my friend. Shunts are diffusion limited by definition. There is a limitation to diffusion because the endothelial alveolar interface is destroyed in emphysema. Several factors go into diffusion. The permeability of the membrane/solubility of the gas, the thickness of this interface, the surface area available for exchange, and the difference in partial pressure of the gas of interest on both sides (in the blood vessel and the alveolus). In emph., SA is diminished (there is little fibrosis in emph., it's not a thickness issue). We say that surface area is diminished because of less healthy lung tissue participating in gas exchange for the reasons I just mentioned. Also think of pulmonary fibrosis, where thickness is increased. Such people cannot be treated with 100% O2 very successfully. You are not doing anything to ameliorate the initial problem: bad lungs. Blasting them with O2 will do little.
Dead space or perfusion limitation on the other hand does respond to 100% O2. In the case of a pulmonary embolism, there is perfusion limitation. This is tricky, because perfusion limitation shows equilibration of gases by the end of the capillary, so what good would adding more O2 do? Again, increasing the partial pressure difference across HEALTHY lung (in this instance) will cause a higher oxygen saturation than typical in the remaining capillary beds not blocked by the embolus. That is why 100% O2 will treat a pulmonary embolus or anything perfusion limited, assuming that you have less than 100% dead space.
I literally know nothing more on the subject.
Creighton SOM is crazy good
Medical professionals such as nurses, receptionists, radiologists, physiotherapists etc.

Why did Michael Jackson have a cardiologist he never had promblems with his heart?
I think Dr Murray was hired by AEG, why they felt the need to do that is something you would have to ask them. Michael has had doctors accompany him before though, he had one with him when Princess Diana died, his doctor was the one that told him.
If you've had a few good dates where you've both had wonderful communication and it seems as though his feeling is mutual if he calls you every day, then it's probably that his fellowship has to, unfortunately, take precedence for now. If you see yourself with him in the future, I would have patience and try to find a few spare moments here and there whenever possible to keep the communication going and learning more about one another. I know it may be difficult, but if he is a keeper and you want to continue on with him, at least you can feel confident that he will be a good provider to you and your children(?) with the career he has chosen, right? Ultimately, you must listen to your instincts; if you don't have a good feeling about continuing, then don't. If you have a good feeling, then by all means...enjoy every moment together; learn and grow and enrich one another :-)
How much money does a cardiologist make in Canada?
The median pay is $231,000. That's for a Non Invasive Cardiologist. A Invasive Cardiologist (open heart surgeon) makes lots more, around $400,000 at start.
Actually, to expand and correct the previous answer slightly: An invasive cardiologist is NOT and open heart surgeon. An open heart surgeon is a cardiothoracic surgeon. An invasive cardiologist is either interventional or non-interventional (that does only diagnostic cardiac catheterizations) cardiologist.
See....this is how information is misread and misunderstood and distributed incorrectly.
You've been referred to cardiology to explore the reason for your enlarged heart. Getting more information will be important to reducing the risks of surgery.
What are downsides to being a mechanic?
Everything sucks about being a mechanic. 15 years ago mechanics made lots of money by getting dirty and fixing your car. These days, mechanics (like myself) spend all of our time fixing bs warranty work that pays barely half of the time that it takes you to complete the task. Everything is technical way past what it used to be and figuring it all out takes way too much time. Getting paid flat rate and having to deal with everyones bs is not worth it, do not become a mechanic, I wish I wouldn't have...
Do You Need A License To Practice Psychology?
Licensure. Psychologists in a solo or group practice or those who offer any type of patient care-including clinical, counseling, and school psychologists-must meet certification or licensing requirements in all States and the District of Columbia. Licensing laws vary by State and by type of position and require licensed or certified psychologists to limit their practice to areas in which they have developed professional competence through training and experience. Clinical and counseling psychologists usually need a doctorate in psychology, an approved internship, and 1 to 2 years of professional experience. In addition, all States require that applicants pass an examination. Most State licensing boards administer a standardized test, and many supplement that with additional oral or essay questions. Some States require continuing education for renewal of the license.
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) awards the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) designation, which recognizes professional competency in school psychology at a national, rather than State, level. Currently, 31 States recognize the NCSP and allow those with the certification to transfer credentials from one State to another without taking a new certification exam. In States that recognize the NCSP, the requirements for certification or licensure and those for the NCSP often are the same or similar. Requirements for the NCSP include the completion of 60 graduate semester hours in school psychology; a 1,200-hour internship, 600 hours of which must be completed in a school setting; and a passing score on the National School Psychology Examination.
