What do you do when your ferret shreds her bed?
If your ferrets shreds her bed, try changing to another type of bedding. She may be doing it out of boredom and may need more time out of her cage
Will ferrets run on a large hamster-type wheel?
Yes, but ferrets usually have to be taught to run on them, by placing them on it and showing them how it works. It doesn't necessarily come natural to a ferret like it does a hamster. Also, it is very important to get a much larger exerciser wheel than those used for smaller pets. The ferret wheel should be no smaller than a 15" diameter. Ferrets are larger than other small animals who use these wheels, and if the wheel is too small it can harm the ferret's back after running for a while. The best things that ferrets love to do is crawl through tubes, like dryer vents, certainly not one that is hooked up to your dryer, but one that is long and laid out across your floor. Monitor them to make sure your tube is too small for them and that they do not get stuck. Ferrets also love to sleep and snooze, and actually their cage is not the favored spot for them. Oh sure, they'll snooze anywhere, but mine loves to crawl under my clothes dresser, up the back, and into the bottom drawer, which is dark, warm, and shuts out the outside world completely.
No ferrets do not have lockjaw. Lockjaw refers to tetanus, an infectious disease of the central nervous system
How to tell if your ferret has an enlarged prostate?
If your male ferret is straining to urinate it could be an enlarged prostate which is usually caused by adrenal disease.
According to this website - exoticpetvet.com
Stranguria (straining to urinate)-This is seen mainly in male ferrets. It is due to the prostate becoming enlarged secondary to excessive testosterone secreted by the adrenal gland(s).
The best way is to use a wire brush and then paint the cleaned area with a rust preventive paint. Please do not let your ferret back into the cage until the paint is completely dry. Think of your ferret as if it were a small child and take precautions just as you would for a very bright two year old. Ferrets are very curious and might try to "taste" the paint as well as they might eat the rust flakes, so be careful.
The plural for ferret is ferrets but a group of ferrets is called a "business" of ferrets.
Your ferret has small dark green stools and lethargic?
That sounds like your ferret may have ECE which is a Mystery Virus. it was originally called the "greenies" but the actual name for it is epizootic catarrhal enteritis. Ferrets dont usually die from this disease specifically its more of the way the disease affects the rest of the body. All baby ferrets can carry ECE and when it is introduced to an older ferret, or a ferret recovering from an illness they are more prone to getting it. Take them to the vet IMMIDIATLY

Are ferrets dangerous to pregnant women?
It's possible, ferrets can contract some of the same diseases as cats or dogs. Make sure your pet is up to date on all vaccinations and treat for fleas. Use precautions the same as dog or cats. Wash hands after handling animals, avoid handling litter trays, try to avoid animal bites or scratches. Avoid having animals around a baby, and never leave any animal unattended or unsupervised around children. Be aware that ferrets can contract human influenza, humans with flu need to avoid handling ferrets, and vise verse.
Major Zoonoses that Can Be Transmitted from ferrets to humans
Advice from another contributor:
Yes it's fine. They don't have the same dangers as cat feces do but it makes for a good excuse to make someone else clean the litter box. Make sure your ferrets has it's shots, is healthy, happy and hasn't been around anyone with the flu (it's transmittable to and from ferrets and humans) and your fine. If you are still worried though i would go and talk to your vet. They will have the best information and answers for you about zoonotic(diseases we can get from animals) diseases and any dangers you might face with the animals you have.
Congratulations on your baby.

Why do ferrets have sensitive noses?
Ferrets have sensitive noses because the are so close to the ground and constantly sniffing everything.
Which is the best ferret harness?
I would suggest a harness that has snaps. If you have your ferret on a harness that has velcro, and no snaps or buckles, it is very easy for for your ferret to slip out of it. I would also not use a harness that is made specifically for ferrets, but if you want to you can, but for my ferrets I used a sorta generic harness for small critters.
What do weasels and ferrets do not have in common as characteristics?
Ferrets are domesticated, weasels are wild animals. A ferret is in the weasel family
When should I cage my two ferrets and when should I let them free roam?
Ferrets are not caged animals, but you cage them for their protection. Most ferret owners cage ferrets when they're not at home or unable to supervise them when free roaming. Ferrets need about 4 hours daily time out of their cage in a ferret proofed environment. Ferrets being burrowing animals by nature are subject to crawl and fall asleep into places that can be dangerous and you cannot get them out, like in major appliances, couches, recliners (very dangerous for ferrets). I personally do not cage my ferrets, but keep them in a bedroom totally ferret proofed so they are safe

Ferrets reach adult size and weight at about 4 to 6 months, Sexual maturity age is at eight to twelve months. First possible mating is at six months or the first spring following birth.
The female ferret first breeding season after her birth will be between five to nine months

What should i do if my ferret poop in er of my house?

Found ferret in shower ate soap acting like seizure?
A ferret eating soap would make them sick and have diarrhea. Check the ingredients of the soap and call a Veterinarian. The seizure could be caused by another illness. In ferrets two and older, seizures are most commonly caused by severe hypoglycemia caused by insulinoma. Other causes of seizures include head trauma, infection or inflammation of the brain tissue, cancer in the brain, poisons, and blood electrolyte imbalances due to liver disease, kidney disease, heat prostration, or intestinal obstructions. Contact your veterinarian. refer to link below on Ferret Emergencies
If your ferret smells what are some solutions to prevent odors?
Use a bioenzymatic pet odor neutralizer. The enzymes in the product actually digest and eliminate animal-based stains and odors. Available at pet stores. Use Febreze, an odor-eliminating spray product that will get rid of virtually any smell, including those left by a ferret. Wash the ferret's bedding twice a week and keep litter box changed. Do not bathe your ferret more than once a month, it's not necessary to bathe them at all. Frequent bathing of ferrets make them smell more musky.
What medicine can be used for a ferret if sick with stomach flu?
My suggestion would be to use nothing - ferrets are not simply small humans and can react very differently to medications and doseages that are safe in humans. Particularly for a viral infection (such as a stomach flu), it is best to keep a close eye on your ferret for signs of severe disease or dehydration but otherwise let him work it through his system himself.
If you are concerned that your ferret needs medication, you need to contact your veterinarian for an appointment - all medications for ferrets will need a veterinary prescription.
Are ferrets good pets for asthmatic children?
Ferrets are not good pets for any children. There are no tests for allergic reactions for human from ferrets. Ferrets don't produce dander like cats, which causes allergic reactions in humans.
What company produces ferrets with the best temperment?
I have 4 Marshall Farms ferrets. They are all happy, excitable, crazy boys like a ferret should be, but they are not very sweet. My 5th, was recently put to sleep, but he was only a few months old and already the sweetest little thing and very calm and cuddly. I would love to own another just like him someday. Therefore, I'd like to know for future reference which route to go in purchasing a new ferret.
I've heard Path Valley ferrets are extremely hyper and nippy. Marshall Farms is questionable on their socialization, and therefore, a lot of their ferrets have biting problems or don't get along with other ferrets. I haven't heard much about Triple F Farms ferrets, but what I have heard hasn't been anything negative. Does anyone have feedback on these three companies? I want to ensure I get another sweetheart who cuddles, and not a devil in disguise!
Do ferrets live in NC in the wild?
