When was baton twirling invented?

Much of Baton Twirling's history is simply hearsay or educated guesses. It has varying stories of how the sport was stared. The first is the idea the the Dutch brought the sport with them when they settled in Pennsylvania in the US and is associated with the swinging of the Swiss flag. Another is a possible history of baton twirling is it was initiated at Millsap's College in Mississippi. Major Millsap's founded this college after the Civil War and dubbed his lady athletes the "majorettes". While this may be the original origin of the name, the Dutch truly introduced it to the United States.

How did cheerleading begin?

It became a high school sport in 1972. At that point, cheerleading became more athletic and challenging as coaches at cheerleading camps pushed the girls to try more acrobatic moves. In 1999, ESPN (the cable sports network) officially declared it a sport and began showing the national cheerleading competitions that were taking place around the country. As of the early 2000s, as many as 20 different high school organizations declare cheerleading as a sport.

It officially became a sport in 2003! However it still has not been officially declared a sport in the NCAA (college)....BUT YOU JUST WAIT BECAUSE COLLEGE CHEERLEADERS DO WAY MORE THAN ANY OTHER ATHLETES....

and watch the 2016 Olympics because it is officially competing in them !

How much do cheerleaders get paid for the Super Bowl?

Following a thorough investigation of Yahoo!'s NFL Cheerleaders category, we found a rough approximation of what these women earn per game. The outfits donned by these dancing dervishes aren't the only skimpy aspect of the job -- turns out the pay per game is rather minimal. After clicking through a few of the official sites, we finally found one that stated exactly how much their cheerleaders make per game. On the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders page, we clicked on the "2003 Audition Information" link and then selected "Rules and Regulations." It states: 1) Cheerleaders are paid $50.00 per home game. 2) There is no pay schedule for rehearsals.

3) Opportunities for paid appearances and shows are available!

So for the privilege of being one of the lucky 30 or 40 who make the final cut, the Cowgirls stand to earn approximately $500 ($50 x 10 home games). That's what the Cowboys pay, but what about other squads? Most don't list any sort of pay scale, but the San Diego Charger Girls make $60 per home game, the St. Louis Rams squad makes $50 per game, and the Seattle Seahawks Sea Gals make an unspecified hourly wage. To back up our research, we found this page that offers Pro Cheer tips. It states, "The pay may range from only $15 to $50 per game." For obvious reasons, most of the NFL cheerleader sites make it perfectly clear that the women are required to hold down a full-time job in addition to their Sunday duties. The paltry pay of $500 doesn't even cover a month's worth of hair-care products for some of these professionals, much less living expenses for an entire year. But don't weep for these women. If you refer back to point #3 in the Cowboys pay package, you'll see that income can extend beyond the bounds of the gridiron. Cheerleaders are in demand to appear at various functions, model for calendars, and perform shows outside of the stadium to help extend the NFL brand. For an idea of what it can cost to have cheerleaders appear at your special event, we found this page on the Buffalo Jills site detailing their pricing structure. In exchange for low wages, these aspiring women make money on these side gigs while receiving valuable exposure. NFL cheerleaders can also participate in a wide variety of modeling jobs, public appearances, and television gigs. For example, lucky Washington Redskins cheerleaders helped soldiers clean their guns and met with such Hollywood luminaries as Jim Belushi. So while they don't make very much for waving their pom-poms, cheerleaders always have something to fall back on. Source: Yahoo

If you know what a toe-touch is, then a straddle jump is nothing more. The only difference is gymnast keep their arms up by their ears, unlike cheerleaders who reach their arms out to their toes.

In a straddle jump, you swing your arms up and bring your legs up on either side with your toes pointed.

There are a couple of things that cause mental blocks, usually revolving around fear. One thing you could do is to have you coach stand near you but not actually touch you. this way you know if you mess up, someone will be close. Another thing I do is visualation. Who started the popular cheer called the wave?

There are many theories about where the wave started, here are a few

Bill the Beerman-Bill Scott, a Seattle bartender, started selling beer to football crowds at Seattle's Kingdome in 1976. He encouraged the crowd to follow his cheers.

Krazy Geogre-Some claim that the first appearance of the wave was a section by section cheer at a Major League Baseball game that was led by professional cheerleader Krazy George Henderson in Oakland, California on October 15, 1981, in an American League Championship Series game between the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees.

University of Washington-Many claim that the first wave originated in Seattle at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium on October 31, 1981,[3][4] at the prompting of Dave Hunter and Robb Weller. Weller, a Washington graduate, was the guest yell-king during the Huskies' homecoming football game against the Stanford University Cardinals.
