Your best bet is to find another vehicle that is pre-equipped with 4x4 such as a pickup, then try to swap the el camino body onto it. The easiest way is to find the wheel base length (from center of front hub to center of back hub) and match it with a truck with a close enough wheelbase as yours (within 1'' difference). For instance, mine has a distance of 117" between the tires, which is similar to the Ford F150 extra cab short bed. They will not bolt directly up but it is the easiest to modify to fit. If you have a welder and cutting torch this should not be too big of a problem if you know what you are doing.

Depends on which 327 you started with. Chevy made many versions of the 327 in 1964 depending on which heads and what fuel system was used. 2 barrel, 4 barrel, or FI. The cylinder heads used on this engine (and some others of the era) were the 3782461X head with 1.94/1.50-inch valves. These heads had the commonly found double-hump shape on the end of the head. Beginning in '64 and through '68, cylinder heads with the double-hump shape also used 2.02-inch intake valves (aka fuelie heads). Castings with 2.02-inch intake valves were also used on the 365hp (Holley carburetion) and 375hp (Rochester fuel-injection) Corvette 327 engines. There were also heads with an upside down V in the 250 hp model. 327 engines ranged from 250 hp to 375 hp depending on heads and fuel supply.

The problem is most likely your neutral safety switch. It is located on the steering column. Either the switch needs adjustment or it is bad.

If you remove the two front tires you can easily access most of the plugs from inside the fender. There maybe be a rubber dust cover that's in the way but you can just move it. takes a little time to remove the tires but its worth it.

You may have to elongate the mounting hole in the trans cross member....or cut a small amount of it off to clear the pan. If your car doesn't have a lock up torque converter (still using the computer) you'll need to use an aftermarket non-lockup converter or install an aftermarket lock up kit. Other than that, it's a fairly simple swap. The 700-r4 uses a TV cable to control kick down instead of the kick down cable of the TH350. Same principle. Should still use the same bracket. Also, the 700-R4 doesn't use a vacuum controlled modulator. You'll need to plug that port at the carb/manifold.

lets assume that this is a factory setup and no modifications have been made follow the fuel lines from the tank to eliminate these mods. look for steel lines running along the frame from the tank. look for line installed mods such as electric pumps and or filters. there were none of these from the factory however these need to be eliminated. the factory installed filter is at the carburator. where the steel line attaches to the carb un-screw the line there is a larger cannister on the rodchester carb here that also unscrews do this with a cold engine to avoid a fire. the spring loaded filter is directional and needs to be installed in the same direction

A CHECK ENGINE light indicates there is a problem. You can't just turn it off. The computer will have to be scanned, Most Auto Zone parts stores will scan it for free. The Scan will tell you what needs attention, repaired or replaced. When they scan the computer, they can re-set the light, BUT it will only come back on after about 50 or so miles, or even right away, until the repair is done. It can come on due to anything from a dirty air filter all the way to a bad engine. You should have it scanned and see what the issue is.
