What have been the most important roles of minor parties?

I'll assume we're talking about US minor parties: Libertarians, Greens, Constitutionalists, Modern Whigs, Communists, etc.

These parties take on four major roles:

First, the "textbook answer:" they provide a platform for non-mainstream political views. Greens remind us to care about the environment, Libertarians argue against big government, Whigs decry polarization and politicking and ask for common sense, and Communists rally against discrimination and exploitation. By doing so, they prevent the two-party establishment from ignoring real problems.

Second, they "spoil" elections: their candidates presence benefits the major party they disagreewith. Most of the time, third parties draw from one major party more than the other. This costs the more closely-affiliated major party's votes and may tip a close election to the other side.

Third, they may become a major party. This is rare, but has happened: the Republican party was once a small band of abolitionist progressives. Then they won the 1860 presidential election with the help of Democrat infighting.

Fourth, they can be really entertaining. Politics is too serious a matter to not have some fun from time to time. The Boston Tea Party is an excellent example, they set out with the goal to make voters laugh--and think--and in my opinion do a pretty good job.

They can't raise enough money. {APEX}

What rights do adults have that juveniles don't?

In the US, I can't think of one that comes immediately to mind. As a matter of fact, juveniles actually enjoy more, and better, protection in the court process than adults do, and are treated more leniently besides.

In McKeiver v. Pennsylvania, (1971) the Court ruled the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial does not extend to juvenile court proceedings, because the intent of the juvenile justice system is to rehabilitate, and a jury trial creates a more adversarial environment that can undermine that goal.

In 1971, no states offered jury trials in juvenile court. As of 2009, ten states grant the right of juveniles to jury trials, and another eleven states allow jury trials under limited circumstances.

Often, US Supreme Court decisions follow trends in state courts. At some point in the not-too-distant future, the Court may extend 6th Amendment protection to children and teens.

What are the child custody laws for unwed parents in VA?

When the parents aren't married the mother has sole custody of her child. Once paternity has been established the father can petition for joint custody or visitation rights. A child support order will also be issued at that time.

See the link provided below for a sample booklet on never married parents questions and rights in Massachusetts and a link for child custody laws in the US.

How do you stop child support if custodial parent doesn't want the money?

File suit to have the support order rescinded. However, child support and parental rights are two entirely different issues and a parent cannot be forced to relinquish his or her rights to their biological child. Voluntarily requesting child support termination does not affect the non custodial parent's custodial or visitation rights. The court will only terminate parental rights in cases of documented neglect and/or abuse, and sometimes not even then. In some instances rather than terminating rights supervised visitation will be ordered.

Can a 12 year old travel alone on a plane?

Is there a law mandating the non cust parent to take the child to his activities on their visitation time?

What kind of question is that? Are you seriously a non custodial parent that even thinks that is a question. You don't want to take your kids to their activities? Its called being an involved parent. The law doesnt need to be addressed, you need to step up to the plate and be a parent.

Is it illegal for an adult or parent to be invading a thirteen year old privacy?

No, it's called good parenting. Knowing what your child is up to can prevent a lot of problems later on.

newtest3

Not necessarily good parenting because it causes relationship problems between parent and child, but is helpful in some serious situations. Still, it is not illegal for PARENT'S to invade your privacy. When you are 18, feel free to do whatever you want. Until then... obey your parents.

What steps do you need to take to have the non custodial parent sign over parental rights?

It has to be done before, and approved by the court, but the primary must not now, nor in the future, be on Welfare.

In the state of Oklahoma how old does a child have to be to be allowed to ride in the front seat?

As previously stated, it depends on your home state's law. However, in Texas all children younger than 8 years old, unless taller than 4'9", are required to be in the appropriate child safety seat system wherever they ride in a passenger vehicle. The safety seat system MUST be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Another way of saying this is: When a child reaches their 8th birthday - no matter their height, it is legal for the child to use only the adult safety belt in the passenger vehicle.

However, the best safety practice is: if the child is not yet 4'9", they are better protected if they continue to use the appropriate child safety seat system until they can properly fit in the adult safety belt.

It varies with state laws. Check with your local DMV office.

Is it illegal to harbor a runaway in Indiana?

A runaway person is considered to be almost against law in Indiana. If you runaway without good reason or becoming emancipated before you turn 18 then you are considered to be a runaway.

Does a parent have to cover a child on insurance until they are 18 even if they have graduated high school?

Yes. Because a child under the age of 18 is not allowed to enter into any type of contract. Getting their own insurance would qualify as a binding contract.

Can the father of my child claim the kids on his taxes if he isn't the legal guardian But pays child support but is behind in payments?

According to the IRS, the only person who can claim a child as a dependent on a tax return is a relative (to include step parents, foster parents, etc) who provided custodial support for the child for more than 50% of the year. In other words, if the child lives with you for at least 183 out of 365 days during the tax year, you can claim him/her. If the child lived with you for 182 days or less, you cannot. It does not matter if another parent is paying child support.

What age do you stop paying child support in Indiana?

Well if your child is under the age 21 and not in school you will need to get that child emanicipated in court then child support will stop. But in order to be emanicipated that child will need to A) Be out of school for 4 months and not be enrolled in college B) Have employment and be capable of supporting themselves C) not be under the control of either parent If the child is still in school like college you can have it modified through the court to help pay for educational needs.

Class misdemeanor possession of alcohol by a minor?

is there a fine to pay after attending court for contributing alcohol to a minor

What age can minors choose which parent they want to live with in a divorce?

Family court decides whether to enforce visitation or not. If your kids don't want to see one parent then the other parent can try to tell the judge why they shouldn't have to, and the parent that wants visitation can try to tell the judge why they should. It gets ugly. Kids don't benefit. The whole thing is a mess but in most states kids don't have a choice and even if they go to court the judge doesn't usually listen to them - they think their brainwashed by the parent who doesn't want the kids to have to go see the ex.

Can you drop out of school in Illinois if you are 17 and lose your license because of it?

Answer

I'm not sure what Illinois laws are on that, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Furthermore, if you did try to drop out then your parents would suffer the consequences just as much as you. In some states you are allowed to take your GED at age 17, that's what you should do, now days you can't even get a job without a high school diploma or a GED. Think of your future before doing something you'll regret.

(yes you can drop out at 16. i did it when i was 16. as did my sister and my cousin)

How can your son insure his name on the birth certificate if the mother is married to another man?

The parent(s) can put anyone's name on the birth certificate.

This statement is not true in the state of Kansas. My son had a child with a married woman who was separated from her husband. In the state of Kansas the husband is always considered the father of the child. In order to get the true parent's name on the birth certificate a divorce has to take place and then the real parent has to go to court to ask for his name to be put on the birth certificate.

A divorce is not needed but the biological father has to provide proof via a DNA test and show the court and then his name can be put on the birth certificate.

How tall your child should be to sit without a carseat in the UK?

The child has to be either 12 years old or 135cm tall (whichever the child reaches first).

What can the law do to a 16-year-old runaway?

The police can take them into custody and turn them over to juvenile authorities where they can be held in a juvenile facility until a court hearing. A minor who is deemed incorrigible by the court is usually placed in a strictly supervised group home or other state facility.

Working conditions of being a lawyer?

Lawyers do most of their work in offices, law libraries, and courtrooms. They sometimes meet in clients' homes or places of business and, when necessary, in hospitals or prisons. They may travel to attend meetings, gather evidence, and appear before courts, legislative bodies, and other authorities.

Salaried lawyers usually have structured work schedules. Lawyers who are in private practice may work irregular hours while conducting research, conferring with clients, or preparing briefs during non-office hours. Lawyers often work long hours, and of those who regularly work full time, about half work 50 hours or more per week. They may face particularly heavy pressure when a case is being tried. Preparation for court includes keeping abreast of the latest laws and judicial decisions.
