Why were clergy in the crusades?

According to my book, they wanted to win the holy land from the infidels. The infidels disturbed the Christians due to their Non-Christian religion. They also wanted to reunite the Western and Eastern Christians' under Pope Urban II's control. Pope Urban II was the leader of the clergy from the fact that he was the pope. The pope is higher than all levels. The order is pope to cardinals to archbishops to bishop to monks to priest the to nuns. There was also an advantage to reuniting the Western and Eastern Christians. The advantage was having the Byzantines as their ally. The Byzantines were a strong empire. So surely, the Byzantines helped in the war. It did not only add more people but it also added more power. I hope I helped!

If we believe in God does that mean that we are saved?

No, absolutely not. The Devil "believes" in God a lot more than you do - and it does him no good, he is still in hell for all eternity. Every single person in hell believes in God and they are most obviously not saved.

The problem that you have to confront is that when Protestant "Christians" use the word saved they are actually talking about three different things:

1) Redemption - every single person who ever lived has been redeemed by Our Blessed Lord's sacrifice of Himself on the cross.

2) Justification - this is what we are in the process of during our entire lives. Justification involves applying the redemption that Our Blessed Lord has accomplished and becoming perfect. We are all called to be perfect by the time we die. If we fail in this, but are still in a state of grace when we die, then there is a state where people are purified in order to enter heaven.

3) Salvation - this happens ONLY after you have died and are judged. It is an instantaneous thing, the instant you die you stand before the Almighty and realize if you actually loved God enough in this life to follow Him or not; and you cast yourself into hell, purgatory, or heaven, depending on how you lived your life. The final state (heaven and hell are both final states, purgatory is just that cleansing for those who died imperfect but in the love of God; the final state of heaven {or purgatory if you are not yet perfect}) is salvation; its alternative is damnation.

We know that salvation is not accomplished in this life because the Bible explains this, and the Church teaches it: justification is a process that occupies our entire lives, then comes judgment and THEN comes salvation or damnation. People who believe that they are "saved" here in this life are either talking about redemption or they are sinning fatally and eternally through the sin of presumption- which is the sin which says that you can know what your final destination is.

You may only have a firm hope - as the Bible explains - but you must "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12) and never presumptuously believe that you are already saved.

How to introduce clergy to lead a prayer?

Clergy normally accept that they will lead prayers, however, it is still good manners to ask them prior to calling upon them if they could be prepared to lead a prayer. This gives them time to gather their thoughts. It also is helpful if you give the priest an idea of what the prayer is about. I.e "Father would you mind leading the grace when we serve the meal?", or "Father would you mind blessing the meeting before we start?", or "Father could you please say a prayer for xxx, he is ill/deceased/serving in the military/etc?"

It is common courtesy to introduce the priest, especially if he is not know by everyone.

Here is how you would address clergy...

In spoken conversation, you would call your priest "Father (last name)." In spoken conversation, you would call your bishop "Bishop (last name)" or "Your Excellency." Archbishops follow the same protocol as bishops. Cardinals are addressed as "Cardinal (last name)" or "Your Eminence."

The shorter the introduction the better. Something like "Father (last name), would you mind leading us in prayer?" or "Your Excellency, could you please open this meeting with a prayer?"

Is minister a synonym for clergy?

It is not possible to know how many Christian preachers are in the world, because the number would be constantly changing. What vestments do priests wear on Thanksgiving?

Answer 1: Priests -- I presume you mean of the Catholic variety -- wear essentially the same vestments all the time, except that certain colors change, depending on the season or event.

I won't go into the details of such as, for example, Alb, Girdle, Stole, Chasuble, Cope or Cassock. Suffice it, for your purposes, I believe, to say that the color at Thanksgiving is usually green...

...which it is tempting to say is the color used when no other color is called for, but it's actually not quite as simple as that.

AnswerThere is no vestment called for on Thanksgiving, assuming you are talking about the American holiday. Thanksgiving is a civil holiday, not a Church holy day.

Why were the clergy the recorders and advisors to the king?

The clergy served as recorders and advisors to the king due to their education and literacy, which were rare among the general populace during the medieval period. They were often the most educated members of society, capable of documenting events, managing administrative tasks, and providing counsel on moral and ethical matters. Their close relationship with the monarchy also allowed them to influence political decisions and maintain the church's power and interests. This dual role helped to intertwine religious authority with political governance.
