Because Fidel Castro declared himself and Cuba communist in 1962.
No. Political beliefs are never "evil" they are just poorly executed. The goal of communism is not to kill anyone. Communism is a theory where its followers believe that the federal government should be very powerful and control almost everything. Is it evil, no. Is it a flawed system? yes. For Communism to exist and function as planned, the people must all abide to republicanistic ideals. However, greed takes over and you have a dictatorship on your hands.
What are the pros cons of communism?
pros: the same standard for everyone, there is little crime because the law is strictly enforced, eliminates local cultures and hereditary elites, and a lot of communist countries invest in education
cons: too much focus on the group, instead of the individual, you can't raise your standard without being corrupted and active in politics, no personal freedoms. Many executions if you went against the communist government.
Very much like they do in democracies. They work within the party system, which is a process called paying your dues. They perform menial jobs, gain favor and are advanced to a new and more challengeing position, party offices got them advancement to new positions. In a democracy the prize is the presidency, in a communist state it is the office of Party Secretary. In either political system, the goal is to obtain and to retain power. Stalin achieved it by terror, Nixon retained his position by employing criminally covert intelligence activities on his potential opponents. Ideologies may have vast differences, but politicians seem to employ similar methos.
How did the fall of the Berlin Wall affect communism?
The Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall had first been put up as a sign of communist defiance against the west and was (as Winston Churchill said) like an iron curtain across the whole of Europe. The wall was designed to keep the west out and the pro-capitalists in.
The Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall fell on November 9th 1989 and signified the unification of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the end of communism in Germany as a whole.
What affect did it have on Communism?
The fall of the Berlin Wall was showed the Communism was collapsing and that the people of eastern Europe were free from the communist dictatorships that had repressed them for nearly half a century. The Berlin Wall's collapse most likely sped up the collapse of communism in it's builder; the USSR [Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - now Russia]. It also led to the Eastern Block or Communist Block dissolving and becoming capitalist. Without this one significant event the whole process may have taken decades longer.
Difference between pure communism and communism?
Pure communism is simply a reference to the way communism was theoretically laid out by Karl Marx (who saw its occurrence as an inevitability). Communism generally refers, in common usage, to states in the last century who claimed to be communist, such as the USSR.
Communism is widely perceived by many people as bad, even though they do not know the true concepts of the political idea. Communism aims for a society without social classes, a society where everyone is equal and everyone earns as much as each other and that no body is superior to anyone else.
Many people use examples such as the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China to portray communism as bad and undemocratic, however, a Communist society really comes down to the source. Who runs it.
If a Communist leader spent the country's money on armed forces and nuclear weapons, instead of healthcare and education, of course the country is going to go into ruin, just as if a Capitalist country done so, because they have no consideration for the people's welfare and the needs of society, however, if the leader did use the people's money on healthcare and other social needs and turned a blind eye to the military, the country will be on a path to success, most likely becoming a peaceful and wealthy communist state.
Also, even though this may seem highly arguable, a Communist state still has to have some sort of leader or committee in charge of the country, even if it does contradict their aims to achieve an equal society, because otherwise, who will deal with the country's economy and politics and who will, most importantly, represent the country?
So the answer to this question is:
Communism is not bad, but it greatly depends on who is in charge of the country.
How did the Russian revolution cause the rise of communism?
It is difficult to answer this question without knowing what about the rise of Communism you are asking. There is a huge difference because "Communism" was not a philosophy of Plato.

What was the effect of the fall of Communism on the living standards of the Russian people?
Well their wasn't really communism in the USSR (Soviet Russia) under the definition it was socialist hence USSR- Union Of The Soviet Socialist Republics. But Before the Russian revolution which put the Socialist government in place things weren't good. their were millions starving and millions out dying in WW1 which a majority of the people did not agree to fight in. But in the long run the Soviet Union did positively affect the lives of the people. In a 2000 poll of Russian citizens around 70-75% said they wished the USSR would be reinstalled. In modern day that number has fallen to around 50% (Mainly due to Vladimir Putin's increase in the standard of living in Russia) But after the USSR fell a lot of things that people could access like Education, Medicine etc.. were privatized before the USSR fell, you didn't have to pay for medicine or going to school or to a collage because the state paid for you. But after the USSR fell the majority of those programs fell and people were now required to pay for them which with a falling economy didn't work. In conclusion though the USSR increased the living standard in Russia, and the live expectancy raised 30-35%.
What was war communism What was its purpose?
War communism was brought in to force the new socialist system upon the populace of Russia after the October Revolution of 1917 when Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks took power in Russia. The Bolshevik Revolution was not a true communist revolution. The people of Russia were not ready to give up working for personal profit just yet. The Bolshevik regime expropriated large portions of crops from peasant farmers either by forcing them to sell produce to the government at low prices or simply just taking them. The Bolsheviks had been faced with the obligation to feed the people in the cities or be themselves thrown out of power. The only way to do this was to take crops from farmers.
One main element of communism as Karl Marx saw it was that people would produce according to their ability and take according to their need. War communism was communism forced upon the peasant farmers whereby virtually all the crops they had the ability to produce was taken by the government leaving the peasants who produced them just enough to fill their own needs.
The Germans are the ones who assisted Lenin to power. They did this with the expectation that he would undermine the Russian efforts in the war.
Truman directed security agencies to screen employees for signs of disloyalty.
Why do you think the US has been so opposed to communism?
I guess the U.S. still doesn't like communism because of its' modernism and multiple hidden belief's; like how communism is somewhat of the birth of a totalitarian gvrn. == Citizens of the U.S. are generally opposed to communism because they live in a Capitalist society. And in Capitalist societies the leading corporations (Most of which are owned by leaders of the country) control the media, and promote anti-Communism, for the benefit of the rich, at the cost of the poor. For more information on the subject go here: http://groups.myspace.com/CommunistPartyMarxismLeninism. == Another reason is the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia during the late 1910s. This led to the first "Red Scare", because the world, mainly the U.S., first saw communism and from that point associated it with revolution and violence. Also, during the 1950s, most of white Americans lived a very comfortable life that they attributed to capitalism. The financial aspect of the American Dream was achieved, and the thought of someone else controlling Americans' income was frowned upon. The Cold War didn't help much either.
