What cable is required to connect an apple mac to a LCD TV?

Look at what output port you have. It could be DVI, Mini DVI, Micro DVI, or other. The Apple store website should help you decide. Then decide what connection to the TV you want. For RCA cables (like a playstation uses), Svideo or others, though those are the most common. I use a Mini-DVI (from my white apple Macbook, though the new aluminum ones are MicroDVI) to RCA connector, then plug an RCA cable from the connector to my TV. This only handles the video. Sound is seperate, I use a cable that plugs into my headphones jack and outputs RCA. It may be a good idea to talk to someone at your local apple store.

Are firewire ports the most popular ports used to connect peripherals to a computer?

It depends what you mean by popular and who you are asking. The most commonly used connector is the USB port. If someone recorded a lot of video on a camera with a FireWire connection then the FireWire port would be quite popular with them.

Why should you not put a magnet near a TV or computer?

Magnets can only harm televisions with a display tube in them. This is because tube televisions use an electron beam to "paint" the image on the backside of the screen. This electron beam excites phosphors which give of light. There are three different types of phosphors, one each for red, green, and blue.

When a magnet is placed too close to a tube television, the electron beam will be bent and cause the image to distort, typically by changing the colors on the screen. If the magnet is left close to the television for too long, it will magnetize the metal within the tube and the distortions will be present even if the magnet is removed.

Modern flat panel televisions, such as plasma and LCD types, don't suffer from this problem.

In the case of computers, the magnet may change the data stored on the hard drive, which uses extremely small magnets to read and write data to a spinning metal disc. If the magnet changes the data stored on the disc, there's no way to recover it.

Where can you buy the DVD Einstein Pals?

They aren't released yet.

11/24/08 And won't be until Spring 2009. I called the company today wondering when it was going to be released. The rep didn't know so she checked with the DVD department which informed her it wouldn't be released until Spring due to production issues. It was due this fall per the latest DVD 'My First Signs.' Very disappointing. Shouldn't have been advertised that way if they were unsure. I was hoping to buy it for my 2 y.o. for Christmas.

What safety precautions should you take when dissassembling a computer?

Below are some of the safety risks and their solutions.

1. Electric shock. This can be minimized by making sure the PC is unplugged before servicing it. It would also be best to unplug it from any modem or network just in case.

2. Getting cut on the case. This can be minimized by using caution and perhaps even a pair of gloves while opening the case. Sometimes you can file down rough edges. The old type cases had a tendency to develop sharp ridges inside the cover if they were opened frequently, and those ridges could be reduced using sandpaper.

3. Getting stabbed by PC parts. If an open PC has exposed hooks or sharp edges, and it starts to fall, grabbing it too hastily could drive a part of the case into your hand and require a hospital trip. Gloves could minimize that, as could making sure the PC is fully on a sturdy surface (not halfway on a chair, for instance). If nothing else, if it starts to fall, don't grab it. More than likely, any damage would cost less to fix than a hospital trip.

4. Problems related to severe frustration. Yes, you may be tempted to smash or throw your PC. However, you have to keep control of your emotions. If you punch your computer or a nearby wall, you could sprain your wrist. If you throw a PC, it could ricochet and/or hit someone. Then you could end up in the hospital or in jail.

Is a drive a input or an output?

A drive, whether a hard disk disk, flash memory drive, or floppy disk drive is a peripheral device that can be used for both input and output. Most common and slowest expansion bus?

As of right now, the fastest expansion bus found in a standard PC is a PCI-E or often seen as PCIe (PCI-E or PCIe stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express)

Installing a PCIe card into your PC may be done only if the motherboards expansion slot will fit it. PCIe cards can fit into larger slots, but not smaller slots (obviously).

A port that transmits data eight bits at a time?

A port that handles more than one data bit at a time is a parallel port. The most common example is the printerport (LPT) found on most older computers. The port is designed to transmit and receive 8 bits at a time.

Parallel ports are less common on modern computers as the USB port has now replaced it for the majority of applications.
