Jay E Freeman founded FA Components in 1980. It was one of the earliest computer hardware distributors and was based in Queens, NY. By 1987 Freeman had built the company to 100 employees in five warehouses across the country. He sold the firm to Cheyenne Software in 1987 and retired.
Freeman was born in Brooklyn NY on June 4, 1938. He married Patricia Staff, June 6, 1964 and they have one daughter, Rachel. Freeman has residences in New York City and London and splits his time between each one.
Freeman went to Stuyvesant HS and graduated from CCNY with a degree in electronic engineering in 1960. He worked for several defense contractors during the 1960s mainly doing digital logic design. During the 1970s he had a variety of jobs including working for the British Consulate as a Commercial Officer, a New Products manager for a hose clamp company and a management consultant at a think tank.
In his retirement Freeman took up long distance walking. With his wife he walked 1300 miles across Europe from the North Sea to the Mediterranean. He walked over 1000 miles on the footpaths of Great Britain. Freeman traveled to 100 countries on all seven continents and dog sledded to the North Pole but failed to reach it by 25 miles.
