Why did the Atlantic Wall fail to stop the D-day invasion?
There is no one reason why the Atlantic Wall failed to stop the D-Day invasion. It was due to many reasons, such as:
Field Marshall Erwin Rommel (the architect of the Atlantic Wall defenses) was never given enough resources to actually complete the main plan and had to resort to partial defenses that had fake batteries and personnel.
Rommel was relieved of duty before completion.
The allies attacked at Normandy rather than Calais as was believed to be the most likely invasion point (and hence the most fortified).
Special forces and insurgents created enough confusion that the defenders were unsure if it was the real invasion or a decoy. This is especially poignant because it was expected that Patton would lead the invasion but he was the true decoy.
Allied air and naval superiority.
The German generals were also restricted in the use of the Panzer Lehr, the German counterattack tank division, that was supposed to move to throw the allies back into the sea. Release of the Panzers was by direct command of Hitler himself and the order came too late.
Even with all these things going in the allies favor, it was still a tenuous thing at best until the breakout of the hedgerows (that were also part of the German defensive plan).

Did the Allies carry out the Normandy landings after having sea control?
The allies controlled everything during the invasion; air, sea, and land. Essentially the above is true, but perhaps not quite as true as it might at first seem. The US in preparation had lost nearly a thousand men during Exercise Tiger, off Slapton Sands, Devon, prior to Normandy, due to German E boat incursion. While the skies over the beaches were relatively free from the Luftwaffe, the land at 'Bloody Omaha' was by no means, at one time, in Allied control. The story of the Kreigsmarine in WW2, above the waves at least, is of great ships which achieved little in conflict with the Royal Navy and in much the same way as the tanks on the battlefield they were used briefly & they did not see old age.

Respectfully, you are referring to anywhere from 500,000 to 1,000,000 men. Gen. Patton was the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Armored Division, II Corps, Seventh & Third Army before he died in December 1945. I own most of the histories of the divisions that served under Gen. Patton during WW 2, so if you just need random names I can provide you with several thousand. Richard V. Horrell WW 2 Connections.com

What were the traditionalist views on D Day and the opening of a second front in World War 2?
There was much pressure from Stalin to open a second front in Western Europe to divert Hiter's armies to fight in Western Europe. It was decided to do a full landing beach assault on the coast of France after the southern part of Europe was controlled after the fall of Mussolini in 1943. D Day was scheduled for the Spring of 1944 but bad weather kept delaying the invasion until a weather break on June 6, 1944. The assault was the largest sea and land invasion in history up to that time and was successful as Hitler's panzer divisions arrived too late to stop the allied advancement. This was in large part due to a miscalculation of where the invasion would happen and the fact that Hilter was sleeping when the invasion reports at Normandy first surfaced in evening of June 5th. He and only he could authorize the use of the panzer divisions. Had they been ready to counterattack the invasion would have been penned down for months and the length of the war extended.

In my opinion Americans should, now before you go jumping on me saying I'm a redneck listen! Politicians use examples such as the Arizona shooting to ban public guns but the gun that was used is illegal. I have never fired a gun but I wouldn't mind shooting in a range, I mean hunting is evil to some people but hey there are more uses to guns than that I mean com on give em a chance hope this helped for more of my opinions contact me via wsawkins@aol.com
What is an example of How ions form?
Ions are formed when elements either gain or lose their electrons. For example, Sodium (Na), since it has one electron in its outer shell (valence electron) it will be easier for the atom to lose its one valence electron and give it to an element that would want to gain that one electron, for example, Chlorine. This reaction of gaining or losing electrons would create an either negative ion (gained electrons) or a positive ion (lost electrons). For the example that I did, the element Sodium would lose its one electron in its outer shell making it Na +1 because it would have one more positive charge then it would negative charge.
