What is the purpose of social dance?
Swing dance is a relaxed and grounded improvisational dance based on down bounce, transfer of center of gravity, and redirection of momentum. It is traditionally danced to swing music and recently to neo-swing; however, it can be danced to many forms of music. You might say that swing is any partner dance that you can do in tennis shoes and blue jeans, usually facing each other and holding hands. One of the pair is a leader and the other a follower. It has its roots in New York's Harlem in the 1920s. It is quite distinct from Ballroom or Latin dancing. Jitterbug is an old name for East Coast Swing (ECS), which we used to call just "swing" until West Coast Swing (WCS) came along. Before ECS, we had the Shag, the Lindy Hop, and many other variations. What all forms of swing (except WCS) have in common is a bouncy dance in 4/4 time to bouncy music without any Latin rhythm elements. It stays in place. The leader leads the follower in many turns and kicks and other moves, frequently to his left and right. ECS is danced to music in 4/4 time but has only 6 counts in its basic pattern. Triple-time ECS usually has the pattern triple-step left, triple-step right, rock-step apart, with 2 counts each. For faster music, single-time ECS has simply left, right, rock-step. (Left and right are from the leader's perspective; the follower just stays with the leader unless led otherwise.) The Lindy Hop has an 8-count base: rock-step, triple-step, step-step, triple-step; some Lindy moves are often inserted into ECS routines for variety "Jive" is another form of ECS characterized by high speed and high stepping. WCS is quite cool, unlike other forms of swing. It is a slow, smooth dance in which the leader leads the follower in elegant gliding moves mostly forward and back in an imaginary slot with many turns and other moves as she goes. The leader usually stays alongside in one place as the follower goes back and forth in the slot. Many young people dance swing exclusively, having learned it in high school.

Ir's a form of classical dance that's seemingly gymnastic and acrobatic to formal classical music--usually referred to either as "the girliest, most gayest thing there is" or the "most demanding, exhausting, consuming and difficult sport there is." Traditionally done in tights and slippers, ballet seems so impossible, yet so feminine. And it's the one sport totally dominated and just better done by women.
What is ballet, really? It's everything, really. It's a form of exercise, a body sculpting. It's as an athletic sport as football. Only the players all work together to create something together instead of trying to stop the others efforts. It's an out-of-body, ESP spiritual experience. It's an art form. It's a happening. It's an event. It's everything and anything at once. Ballet is even therapeutic because it gets a lot of excess energy, thought and worry off your mind and body and replaces it with a pleasantly released serene feeling.
Like climaxing or releasing stress. Many misconstrue that you need to be rich, posh, snobby, female, intellectual, upper-crust and thin as a wafer to get it. That's just narrow-minded stereotyping idiocy. All ballet really requires is that while you're doing it (every minute you're doing it), you to give everything about yourself every moment.

What Africans from different cultures wear to dance is not a one sentence answer and it is certainly not the previous one sentence answer. For traditional dances, each culture has their distinct costuming which is dependant on several different aspects of their culture and worldview. Masquerades are an institution entirely separate and no Africans do not just randomly wear masks when they dance. As a matter of fact in all my years as an African dancer, choreographer and costumes maker and in all my travels to Africa and research and study of African cultures I have never seen dancers wear masks. Why? Because, again, the masquerade is a separate institution that has it's own history and importance in African cultures. For contemporary African dance one can be creative using materials native to Africa and commonly used there including cowrie and other types of shells, fur, colorful beads, raffia, feathers, coconut shells, seeds, etc..etc.. With contemporary African dance costumes, since they may not to be tied to any one tradition, one has the freedom to explore and fuse different concepts and materials although these still should remain true to what would be considered "African". How do you dance the Polish polka?
The polka dance is done by a 3 step count; in other words... one two three, one two three. It starts with the male (leader) taking a step on his right foot, while the woman (partner) steps on her left. The first step is the one then the second step is on the opposite foot for both, then the third count is on the original foot. L for partner and R for male. If you look it up on youtube you will be able to find a video. My favorite song to practice to is called the Pennsylvania Hills Polka, by polka family. You can find that on youtube as well.

i would suggest dance lessons from an early age on and connecting to dance schools for referrals and go to contests...also if you wish to do country/western dance, start taking line-dance and other lessons - you will meet a lot of people if nothing else.

At my class we wear tight fitting black dance clothes but all schools are different. If you mean on stage it is what ever the costume may be. I have seen some amazing costumes. If this isn't specific enough check with your nearest dance school they can tell you.

Well that's a pretty generic question, but to narrow it down to any "public place", or perhaps this is simply a "test" question, the only place I know for certain is the tourist town of Cap d'Agde, aka the "Naked City".
As a naturist myself, this topic is well known in the society.
I've never been there, would like to visit, and that's probably it. Yeah, grocery shopping, and perusing the typical businesses naked would certainly rank up there as an extreme experience, but personally, I'd likely try that once or twice (to be sure ;) ) then spend the time removing all tan lines on the magnitude of beaches and perhaps hook up with one of the "non dancing" ladies.
