Decade - 1950s

The only country female singer I can think of would be Dolly Parton. After ending her 7 year partnership with country star Porter Wagoner, Dolly had a 30 minute syndicated television show in 1976. It was a failure, and only contained about 6 episodes.

Dolly would go to the ABC Network in 1989. ABC, wanted a variety show with Dolly, but, again it didn't work out. The show was cancelled in early 1990, and didn't even complete a full season.

In the 1950's a dance would be called a sockhop. A sockhop is when they take off their shoes and dance in there socks. usually the women (or girls) would wear poodle skirts and button down cardigans with saddle shoes. some women would wear preppy plaid skirts, or dresses. men would wear flannel suits in gray or any color of there choice, but usually very dull and not bright.

on the other hand if your asking about there hair women would wear it in either ponytails with a bump in the back. Usually either for short hair flipped in with curled bangs or with medium length (middle of the shoulder you could say) flipped up with straightened bangs, and hair above it pulled back into a bump. with long hair it would be pulled half up bump or not ( with the little girls and tweens its usually no bump, bumps were most common with female adults in the 50's) the rest of the hair was either wavy, crimped lightly , or straightened. men would wear their hair combed to the side and typically they ALWAYS USED A LOT of grease and comb all of there hair back giving it a shiny look. In England a greaser was the term used to describe what was seen at the time, as a rebellious group of youths. This subculture evolved into the Ton-Up boys of the 50's, which again became the Rockers and rival Mods.

In America they were a subculture of mainly ethnic white youths from the northeastern and southern united states. As this group of rebellious youths spread they became known as 'hoods'.

In both countries they got the name greaser from their hairstyles. They grew their hair longer than the normal fashion of the times, and combed it back in a quiff which was creamed, gelled, or waxed into place.

Greased slick-back hair. Long in your face, slit down the middle kinda hair. Ivy league(basically a longer version of a high and tight). But mainly the slick back and maybe a little hair dangeling in the front. -Lucian Brown

Until 1954 food rationing was still a part of life in 1950's England. During the years of rationing the people did not eat much meat. After rationing ended, they began to eat foods that focused on meat. Some popular foods eaten in England in the 1950's included Spam fritters, liver, fruit salad, custard, and salmon sandwiches.

The cold war was a time when citizens of the United States viewed themselves as competitors. We had to WIN the Space Race; we HAD to land a man on the moon FIRST! We HAD to have the FASTEST cars! The most notable movie released by Disney Studios in 1941 was "Dumbo". "The Reluctant Dragon" was a featurette that was also released as well as "The Nifty Nineties" (cartoon), "Old McDonald" (Donald Duck cartoon). In 1941 there was a studio strike at the studios, perhaps if the strike had not happened, more movies would have been released.
