Color is a personal choice. Different people will find different colors personally appealing, but there are a few things that might help in making the decisions involved in creating your own work - whether it be for a painting, decorating a room, working with fiber arts, or whatever you are trying to do.

First a bit about color using a color wheel (you can find these online easily). This information is from my personal web site at Crochet Cabana.

The primary colors on the color wheel are blue, yellow, and red.

The secondary colors are those you can make using two primary colors. Those would be green (yellow/blue), orange (yellow/red), and violet (purple) (blue/red).

On your basic 6-color wheel the colors are laid out so that there is a secondary color between each two primary colors, like this: blue, green, yellow, orange, red, violet.

The tertiary colors are those made from a primary and a secondary, such as: blue green, yellow green, blue violet, red violet, red orange, yellow orange. Some people call this the intermediate group and the tertiary as those made by combining two secondary colors. Either way, you're combining colors to make new colors.

You can use this information to find colors that will go together well. A few color schemes/themes you might try include:

monochromatic - similar colors which are side by side on the color wheel - like three shades of red.

analogous - colors that are close together on the wheel. You might choose one color and use one or two colors on either side of it to go along. So you would be using 3 or 5 colors in that case.

complementary - colors directly across from one another on the color wheel, such as red and green, blue and orange, yellow and violet. One variation is to use three or four colors that are evenly spaced from one another on the wheel.

monotone - using colors with the same "tone" or brightness level, such as all pastel colors, or all bright colors.

Neutral colors can be combined with other colors as well. Neutral colors would be shades of white, gray or beige, also black, tan, brown - the earth tones.

One final note on color. Colors can be warm or cool. The reds are warm (red, orange, yellow). Think fire. The blues are cool (blue, violet, green). Think ocean. Also, in regards to temperature, dark colors usually are warmer and light colors cooler if you're looking for colors for clothing.

If a room is 9 by 12 feet and you need to know the dimensions of a room that is 2.5 times the size of the room?

All you need to do is multiply each of the dimensions by two and a half. First, multiply each dimension by two, giving you 18 and 24. So that's:

9 x 2 = 18

12 x 2 = 24

Then you need to find half of each of the original dimensions - half of 9 is 4.5 and half of 12 is 6 - and add each result from this calculation onto its respective result from the previous one, like so:

18 + 4.5 = 22.5

24 + 6 = 30.

It'd be a lot easier to explain this if you were here. But basically, this means that the new room would be 22.5 by 30 feet. Hope that helped!

What is the width of rectangular banquet room is 21ft the length of the room is 3ft more than twice the width what is the cost to carpet the room if the price is 24.50 per square yard?

$2,474.50

If the width of the room is 21 ft, then the length would be 45 ft (21 x 2 + 3 = 45). Since the cost of carpet is by the square yard, we need to convert the footage into yards (21 ft = 7 yds; 45 ft = 15 yds) then multiply to find the area (sq yds): 7 x 15 = 105 sq yds. Now multiply by the cost of carpet to find the total: 105 x 24.50 = 2572.50

Should the foundation of a house be the same color a darker color or a lighter color than the siding?

== Lighter, just opinion. == A darker foundation or "base" would work better. Do a quick drawing and check it out if you can't visualize it. From the ground up, it gets lighter, and that's a more "natural" progression.

How do you decorate a small apartment?

  • Use light, pale/pastel colors for the walls and ceilings
  • Choose cool paint colors to paint a room (e.g. blues and greens seem more distant)
  • Add height to rooms by painting ceilings with the lightest shade of the wall color or a pale sky blue
  • Paint crown moldings the same color as the walls
  • Avoid high contrast between the wall color and painted woodwork, furniture and decorations
  • Avoid wall patterns, borders and anything that draws too much attention to the walls
  • You could use wall decals to decorate instead of painting the walls. Most apartment facilities will not let you paint their walls. It can become costly and a hassle to repaint once you are ready to move out. !

Do airless paint sprayers use more paint than painting with brush or roller?

An airless sprayer works pretty much like a squirt gun. The paint is pumped by the sprayer through a nozzle where it's broken up into fine, fine droplets. An air paint sprayen hasn't got a pump, it relies on a steady supply of pressurized air to force the paint through a nozzle instead.
