Which is best direction to face while working in office with not much visibility of outside world?

In an office with no windows your best choice is to place the desk in the area of the best light. Adding task lighting will also help.

If you are an easily distracted person put the desk at a 90 degree angle to the door. I prefer to have my chair on the hinge side of the door because someone coming in does not have instant eye contact with me, but if the office does not lend itself to that arrangement it is not that big a difference.

If your business requires you to have "clients" in your office and you want a "barrier" between you and them, set the desk parallel to the door with your chair behind it and your client chair(s) facing you.

In the case where your business requires you to interact comfortably with your "client" (any collaborative activity) setting your desk against a wall (your choice) with your chair and the client chair(s) at right angles works best.

I am redecorating my bathroom and I don't know what colour I should paint the walls I have a pink bathtub What should I do?

A bathroom is the very best room in any home or apartment to decorate. This is where you can let your imagination and personal taste run as wild and exotic as you'd like... think about it, how long does anyone really spend in a bathroom?

I once moved into an apartment (with only the one bathroom) that had a pink tub yellow toilet and sink and an ugly green tile floor... My first thought was to move.

Then I was in a "Bed & Bath" shop where I found a shower curtain with pink, yellow, blue and green (all pastels) on a black background and fell in love. I ran a chair-rail around the walls at the level of the top of the counter back-splash, and painted all of the lower room black. The upper part I painted a pink to match the tub. Then ran a border (that matched the shower curtain) around the room just above the chair-rail and back-splash.

I added a black throw rug, white towels and chrome accessories and spent my entire time living in that apartment not only loving my bathroom, but getting all kinds of compliments from my friends whenever they visited.

What colour would you suggest for kitchen walls when there is lots of green in the wall and floor tiling?

To enhance the green in the tiles, use more green, either in the same or a darker tone.

To compliment the green and brighten the room use yellow and/or white.

To give it a more "masculine" or neutral look use tan or beige with lots of natural woods.

Do you have to remove old linoleum before putting down new vinyl tiles?

What is under the linoleum? If it is stuck down well, you can put new tiles on there once. However, if you get to "the bottom of things," you may be able to fill in any dips in the floor and correct any other issues that will make your vinyl tiles look even better. It will take elbow grease and a crowbar and some major adhesive remover to take off the linoleum, but it can be done.

If you choose to tile over the linoleum, make sure it is super clean and free of any grease.

What is the best type of paint to use on clothing?

I use acrylic paints - the kind you buy in the little bottles at the craft stores. Works beautifully. I have also been know to use regular old wall paint. I figured it didn't come off when I accidentally got it on my clothes so why not out it on them intentionally!

Importance of painting to a room?

Painting a room can personalize the space. Paint can make a room appear larger, smaller, or brighter, depending on the color you select. Just changing an accent wall will make a big difference. If you are a renter, you will have to check with the landlord before painting. If painting is not an option, consider installing a repositionable, removable wallcovering which is reusable. That make installation easier: no mess of paste, easy alignment during installation, no residue left behind when removed, and it's cleanable. You can also remove it, replace the backing sheet, roll it up and take it with you to use in another dwelling. You may want to consider all of these attributes before deciding between paint or the wallcovering.

Is painting primary or secondary source?

What wall colour goes best with a gold carpet?

It will all depend on what you will want to do with the room, what kind of brown is in the walls, what style of furniture you have or plan to use in it.

A few ideas:

For a trendy and retro look go for a very light beige, almost white and apply the same color to the ceiling. And they play around with area rugs and accents in colors like lime green, orange, white, and light blue.

You can bring some earthy tones and textures, choosing a neutral sandy color for the carpet and ceiling and using neutral natural textures to the room, with a few splashes of color here and there.

You can also go for a sober, sort of Victorian look and line the floor with nice oriental area rugs, and in this case find a carpet color that will help you highlight the rugs. Consider crown molding and Victorian style wall embellishments (even some stenciling) Use turn of the century pieces as furniture and place nice pictures on the wall, in beautiful golden frames.

If the brown in the walls is on the reddish side, you could go for an oriental look too. Neutral light tones in the carpet, and oriental inspired decor.

Just a few ideas.

What I would not do... but again.... that is personal. I will not use dark carpet or ceiling.

Does it cost more to paint using oil based paint vs latex paint?

It costs a lot more to use oil paints rather than latex paints. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, the ingredients that make up oil paint are much more expensive than ingredients for latex paint. Second, due to companies having more earth friendly restrictions, oil based paints have gone up in price and are harder to find now (oil based paints are less earth friendly than latex paints)

Can you paint acrylic paint over rustoleum paint?

yes you can. but it wont bond too great.... especially if the rustoleum is really thick. To help the paint to bond to it, sand it fairly well wit sand pads/paper or with liquid sander, or both..., or just use oil paint.

Have medium oak cabinets white appliances white with gray vein back splash with intermittent pale blue green white tile what color granite?

What color should you paint your ceiling?

Ceilings are a much neglected surface for paint. I have decorator friend who claim a ceiling should never be anything but white, but I disagree.
I used a midnight blue on the ceiling of my studio against everyone's advice (they all claimed it would bring the ceiling down) but I found it was like working outdoors on a clear night. The ceiling all but disappeared from my consciousness.
I have done murals on several ceilings, included pale blue with fluffy little clouds in a nursery, and the canopy of a forest in a young man's room.
I love to do the faux coffered ceiling look by adding a moulding a foot or so from the wall and painting the outer area a slightly darker shade of the colour I paint the inner area. Even if you just paint the ceiling a much lighter colour of your wall colour it tends to add a bit of something special to the room.

To glue a stainless steel outdoor garden sculpture to a black marble base - What can you use to permanently bond them and that can withstand being in outside weather?

An epoxy resin two part glue may be suitable.
There may be issues with marble that is outside in a climate where frosts occur. Marble is porous and any moisture absorbed will expand upon freezing, possibly damaging the marble.

What's a calming color paint that would go well with a deep violet carpet it's in a well lit room with knotty pine ceiling and borders and lots of plants?

Your room sounds beautiful! My suggestion would be that you choose a beige/taupe with a hint of purple/lavender/violet. Pick a beige/taupe that goes well with your knotty pine. Try to match the warmth of the wood in the paint color.

Another option would be to go with a warm sage gray/green scheme if this is more of a an indoor/outdoor room. This color would really complement the plants.

I'm not sure what you mean by borders. If they are wallpaper borders, consider pulling a color from them to tie the room together.
