Drain the coolant, disconnect the surge tank to heater pipe line, and the heater core to heater pipe line, remove the drivers side engine mount, and the starter, and unbolt the heater pipe from the engine-transmission bolt. Remove the clamp from the short hose at the thermostat housing, and pull the pipe out.

In my case on a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, there were two bare wires in the wiring harness coming into the trunk lid. It was in the area where the wiring harness is clamped to the trunk (left side) just at the lip of the trunk recess.
I wiggled that harness and got the dash trunk light to flash on & off. Peeling back the wiring harness cover at that point revealed the bare wires. Taped them off individually, and then retaping wiring harness at that point solved my problem.

Once the coil is thawed out, return to the cool mode and drop the temp. If your filter was dirty, change it. If the filter was not dirty you could be low on refrigerant. If this is the case, your system will freeze up again, it is just a matter of time.

Actually, you should have the system checked by a qualified Technician. The intrepid uses a pressure transducer that means the charge must be correct for it to basically work at all. Properly done, the system must be recovered (remove any remaining refrigerant) , pulled into a vacuum for 30 minutes (to remove any moisture), and charged to the correct amount (by weight per the manufacturers specification).
