Kenji, a character in "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes," died around 1951. The book is based on the real-life story of Sadako Sasaki, who died in 1955 after being diagnosed with leukemia due to radiation exposure from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

The 'Blood Wedding' plot consists of a romantic triangle between a bride, a groom, and a married man who loves the bride. The family the groom is marrying into was involved in an earlier, bloody feud with his family, but he is unaware of this. The groom learns a suitor comes to his intended bride's window each night to plead with her to run away with him. She eventually runs away with him, in her bridal gown, into the woods. The groom pursues them. The two men eventually come face to face, and both die, in a bloody altercation. The climax of the story has the bride coming into the filled church with her bridal gown covered with the blood of her lovers. There are two conclusions. One is the bride is killed as a sacrifice to honor. The other is that the mother-in-law, allows her to live, because the knowledge that her actions led to the death of both lovers, will punish her for life.

I believe it was based on Michael Purdy, he was an Italian Mobster who moved to Las Vegas and continued to build his empire there. Puzo only met Purdy once for coffee but Purdy shared his life story and Puzo thought that it would make a great book.

Drama Came First From what I understand, some of the first known literature was drama. The Ancient Greeks recited and performed plays such as "Antigone". This predates the novel by about a millennium. Earliest Forms of Literature The earliest Western literature was, as far as is known, the epic, followed by drama. It is believed that the lyric is also one of the earliest forms, too.
