Why do free range eggs cost more than cage eggs?

The USDA has no rules on what can be called a free range eggs. Therefore a chicken that lays eggs in a house where they cant go outside, are crowded, have no clean air, the ground is dirty and littered with dead chickens and feces, and they are forced to live in 24/7 artificial light that helps boost egg production is considered as free range as the eggs lain by the family farm raised chicken that gets to roam in a pasture and eat bugs during the day. Buying from your local farmer ensures true free range eggs.

True free range chickens get a greater variety of food and they eat what the like, not what is supplied. Free range hens get fresh veggies and proteins from bugs and insects. A free range egg is always much fresher when bought from the farmer as they are collected daily and not transported for miles to be stored in refrigerated containers or the back of a grocery store for days and weeks. If you get a chance, fry up one store bought egg and one free range farm egg in the same pan. Taste one, then the other and the difference is amazing. Also notice the difference between the yolk colours, the free range egg will almost always be brighter and more appealing

Will a duck egg hatch if it has a crack in it?

There is a possibility. It all depends on the crack and if bacteria got into it. If the crack isnt to bad you could melt candlewax and put the melted candlewax on the crack of the egg. If the egg just has a little dent you could barely noticed then if you want you can use nail polish. Hope this works.

How do you know if your chicks have died in the eggs?

'What is the difference between white shelled eggs and brown shelled hen eggs'?

Can you feed a duck popcorn?

Chickens eat just about everything. Odd bits of leftover popcorn will be gobbled up almost before it hits the ground.

Try giving them cold spaggetti even if it has a little sauce on it. They think it is worms, its good for them and they are really funny when they run around clucking and avoiding all the other hens wanting their share.

What eggs do you need for incubator?

Well, first you need a rooster, to make the eggs fertile. If the eggs are not fertile, they will not hatch. Watch the rooster with the hens to see if he mates them. Make sure to gather 5 more eggs than you want to hatch, to ensure a good hatch rate. The temperature in the incubator should be within 1 degree of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit(for chicken eggs). After about 4 days in the incubator, you should candle the eggs to see if they are fertile. If you can see red veins, they are fertile. If you can't, leave the eggs in for about 8 or so more days, candling every other day. If after 10 or so days you can see nothing, pitch the egg. If you are dealing with brown or dark colored eggs, leave in for a week before candling.

Hope this helped

Why don't all bird eggs hatch at the same time?

Bird eggs are laid at different times, so they usually hatch first laid first hatch and so on. This is more common among raptors. For other birds, embryos develop when the egg is incubated, and birds will delay incubation until all eggs are laid so that all the chicks will hatch at the same time.

How do you tell which peking duck is male and which is feamale?

Both male and female pekin ducks are very similar until they mature. There are a couple of signs you can look for as they grow. For one thing, only females actually quack. Males make noises but never do make that loud quacking noise. Another, is the fact that males get a curly feather that grows right at the end of their tail. And of course, the males will be larger than the females when full grown. Good luck!

How do you raise baby mallard ducks?

OK so you have baby ducks? Or want baby ducks? Either way here are guidelines to raise your ducks perfectly!

step 1: get a plastic tub fairly large for more space for the babies.

step 2: you MUST have a heat lamp this is very important for their survival.

Baby ducks must stay in a temperature between 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The best way to monitor this is to buy an outdoor or indoor thermometer.

To retain heat in their pen, put a towel half way over the top of the tub during the day and ALMOST all the way over at night. If your ducks r staying far away from the heat lamp during the day they are most likely too hot and you should turn it off immediately until their pen is a more sustainable temperature.

Step 3: Ducks are messy. VERY MESSY! You MUST clean their pen every day.

Use pine bedding only. Cedar might make them die from an allergic reaction.

Step 4: get a feeder and water for chickens or ducks it's exactly the same. And change their water everyday.

step 5: Go to a live stock store like tractor supply co. , state farm are whatever is in your area and buy baby chick and or duck food. This is THE BEST. and it will provide your babies with a 20% growth formula to build them up strong.

step 6: DO NOT put your ducks outside until ALL THEIR FEATHERS HAVE GROWN AND THEY CAN FLY. You can put them outdoors in an in closed pen before they can fly if they are completely grown. Make sure your ducks are fed a high quality corn feed or special duck food whatever is more comfortable for you.

Hope this helps and good luck with your ducks!!!!

What size coop will you need for 2 chickens and 2 ducks?

a rather small coop, as you may know that they really only need room to sleep if you let them out in the daytime. i would suggest you build or buy a coop that's at least 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. this will provide more than enough room in case you might want more birds in the future

What do you feed an adult wild mouse?

Answer

It depends on what kind of mouse you have. But generally, you may feed it soft breads (if the bread is hard, soak it in room temperature milk) Also, grains such as oats, and other varying small foods, nothing too rich. Pet mice eat vegetables and fruits, so try giving them small portions of that. Hamster/gerbil mixes work well, but if they contain a lot of sunflower seeds, try to remove them and set them aside as an occasional treat, as sunflower seeds are high in fat and can cause obesity in a mouse.

Answer

Mice eat almost anything and love sunflower seeds. Make sure to feed him/her fresh food too. Sunflower seeds are generally high in fat, and too many can be bad for its health. So, feed your mice a variety of foods. They can east most anything from Cheerios to carrots, or you can simply buy some variety food at your local pet shop.

Answer
  1. Nuts
  2. Fruits
  3. Seeds
  4. You can also try mixing in small amounts of cat food or dog food/dog biscuits to keep the teeth from growing too long
  5. Calcium is important for growing babies and pregnant does (female mice) so you can mix in a dab of unsweetened/uncultured plain yogurt.

The only thing you need to remember is that you shouldn't feed them bread, this has high amounts of salt and if fed to them all the time, will kill them.
