i had this come up on mine a few months ago, we took it to the garage and they said that it was part of the engine managment system that showed that one of the electrical leads which is located under one of the wheel arches had coroded. apparently this is very common on this model of puntos because of the position. if you have selcted the gear and setting off and it sounds like grinding the gearbox is on its way out. but if it is grind ing when selecting gears its your clutch not realising properly which could be your master cylinder this only happens if your clutch pedal only as half of its full raise. but if this is not the case, it could be the clutch... but i would try putting gear oil in first in all the cases i have mentioned.

The fuel pump is located under the rear seat, it is very easy to get to but be careful it is very delicate! when removing the two fuel pipes be very careful as the connectors are weak, push the tab on the side of the fuel pipe connectors and at the same time pull them away from the fuel pump, then you unscrew the large plastic nut and pull out the fuel pump.

The airbag sensor comes on when there is no power to activate the airbag when needed. power to the airbag in the steering wheel
is transmitted by a coil spring called the clockspring. when it breaks the sensor light stays on and the horn does not work. On some cars the cruse control fails to work. There is a recall on dodge caravans. Plymouth voyagers and other Chrysler products to replace the clockspring free of charge by any dealer or to reimberse the owner for parts and labor.

the bulbs which run the indicators are probably burned out. i would probably try to find bulbs before removing instrument cluster. bulbs may be hard to find. save yourself a project

if you turned the engine off IMMEDIATLY after the belt broke, you should be ok. If, however, the engine ran for any amount of time with the belt broke - you probably have quite a bit of damange ...

didn't OBD-ll come out in 1996? the ford eec-iiv or iv plug is located at that spot. you need the ford code reader for trucks to 1995.

The Ford F250 and larger models were not mandated to use OBDII until even later than 1996, some as late as 2002, even though they still use the OBDII connector.

Your 1989 may not even be OBD standards compliant.

It would depend on the year of the car and engine type.

This is not possible on the punto as it is controlled by the ecu (engine control unit). If the engine is running rough it maybe in need of a thorough service. Another common fault is the lambda sensor and ecu temperature sendor are over looked, lambda's should be changed every couple of years and coolant sensors can give an incorrect reading after time, both are easy to replace adn should be available from your local auto factors both the above will contribute to high fuel consumption and rough running of the engine.

I'm afraid you cant remove the front head rests, very frustrating as I've brought new seat covers :o(

No one really knows! I called several dealerships after an airbag failure on my 2002 Sable. I was told that the sensor was 1) part of the bumper, 2) in the steering column, 3) on the floor near the steering column, or 4) near the radiator. THERE IS MORE THAN 1 SENSOR ON A SABLE. 2 ON RADIATOR SUPPORT AND THE MODULE THAT IS BOLTED TO THE FLOOR IS 1 ALSO. THEY ARE CALLED CRASH SENSORS AND SEND INFO ABOUT ACCIDENTS FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES.

I assume you are speaking of a timing belt (as it is known in the states). If the belt is snapped, there could be damage as the valves could have stopped in an open position while the pistons were still in motion, causing a potential for interference between the parts. As to the clearance in the motor, I cannot say but there are motors that can break a belt & not be damaged. Most of these motors are of the low horsepower variety (a Fiat Punto 1.2 fits this description). Only an inspection upon repair will give you certain answer.

if it is a MK1, the ECU is very easy to change a 10 min job; to ensure the engine still starts you must change the code box and ignition barrel to match the key/code.

if it is a mark 2, 3 or 4 it is probably hard to do.

i asume you know your spanners so to help you on your way the torque settings are Fiat Punto 55/60 1.1/1.2 engine make sure you use new bolts ect. Stage 1 30Nm/22LBf ft Stage 2 59Nm/43.5LBf ft Punto 55 engine code 176A7.000 Torque figures stage 1. 20 newton metres stage 2. 30 newton metres stage 3. + 90 degrees stage 4. + 90 degrees torque sequence 8 6 2 5 10 7 3 1 4 9 bolts 9 & 10 are the flywheel side of the engine
